My Airbag warning light is on I was wondering what could cause this. Is this something I should just take and have checked at dealership or is this a common problem?

take it to dealership or a qualified shop.

many, many, many thigns can be wrong. clock spring, connectors, switches, crash sensors, seat sensors, wiring, etc etc etc. get it done right. its expensive but alot cheaper then hospital bills.

Mine did this a couple months ago. Turned out it was the wires going to my seatbelt connector on my drivers side. One wire had stripped because of how it sits against the seat and the metal clip holder for the belt. Just electrical taped it and its been fine since. It was making contact with the metal and shorting it out I guess.

I had this damn issue not too long ago. And it came about right after I installed an alarm and head unit. OBD-II reader will not reset the airbag light -I've tried it. At first, I thought it was because I started my vehicle with the airbag plug disconnected from the passenger airbag switch. That wasnt the problem in my case.

Turns out....The airbag wires that go into the Airbag brain, located under the ashtray, were getting pinched. When I installed back my center trim after installing the head unit, the 12v Cigerette wires were smashed down against a few airbag harnesses. Anything harness in your vehicle with yellow loom is related to the airbag. Be careful and try not to disturb or smash these wires. Smashing the wires can cause the ECU to read low current in these airbag wires which will cause the light to come on. Might be different in your case but this is what happened to me! Hope this helps good luck!

Mine is on too after installing a new headunit and starting and driving around with airbag stuff unplugged. I'll check to see if I pinched something.

Here's a comment from a link to resetting the light without a scan tool, though.

"Typically, when you see the SRS light staying on all the time like this it usually has to do with a malfunction or corrosion in the SRS ECU/computer. In the diagnostic check box under the hood place a jumper wire in the terminals TC and E1. Then turn ignition key on and monitor the SRS light and see if it flashes at all. Let me know what you find. This may sound dumb, but can airbags go off spontaneously if this light is on? I suppose anythings possible

My 99 Taco SRS light was constantly blinking slowly, It was throwing 2 codes that I don't have access to now but the way I fixed it was with the ignition off, unplug the 3 connectors on the SRS module under the ash tray and reconnected them and the light went away !
