May be clock spring is worn in column. Hard to diagnose, not sure how to check.

It's true! LOL! The point is, I had no clue what the actual problem was until I scanned it. I could have ended up down an expensive rabbit whole. Funny pic by the way.

I just went through this with my Tacoma and it was the air bag module. The light would come on with the truck off and stay on. I checked all the wires and happen to wiggle the connector and the module and the light went off for a second and back on. I located a used module and plugged it in and now the light is gone.
I did look up in the FSM on which ports to put the jumper wires in and all I got was a flashing airbag light and the cruise control light, so pulling the codes didn't work for me.

@homegrown_xt Really appreciate the feedback :hattip: My mechanic (who I completely trust, like and respect), felt it was too much liability to do anything airbag related. I'm ok with that - he's always been up front and candid about diagnosing problems and recommending the best solutions. My concern is the airbag deploying - that scares the living shit out of me. I just want it fixed. Thanks again

    Part# ??

The airbag scares the hell out of me too! The FSM says to let the vehicle sit for about 90 seconds to make sure the air bag system is powered down after disconnecting the battery. I happen to grab the connector without thinking that the bag could go off until after I started messing with it and then common sense kicked in.
Part # for my module is 89170-35010, but I think your 99 is different from mine. You should have a driver and passenger side airbags, so this part # wouldn't work for you. It is also discontinued, I had a hell of a time finding one. Good luck with your situation and keep us posted and be safe!

Thanks again for the information. I'll ask around for that air bag module.

In order to help you, we need to know what error code it is

Fortunately, it is very easy to pull the SRS code without a code reader:

Open up the "DIAGNOSTICS" port in the engine bay. Short the Tc and E1 pins together (diagram is inside the cover when you flip it open). The light will flash in a pattern, telling you the code
example: blink- short pause - blink -blink - blink - blink - long pause - repeats pattern (this would indicate code 14)
If you have more than one code, it will display a pattern for each

Also, if it is the airbag computer/module don't throw it away, it can be fixed

Not sure why pictures I save upright always upload sideways :facepalm:Anyway, the switch has gone out. I turned it off 5 days ago and the airbag light does not stay on after cranking it up. It's been discontinued 69006-35011 - Thanks to everyone who provided input.
