"Home, work, can a man have too much fun?"
    Introducing: Al Tundy
I snagged this surprisingly under-abused SR5 Tundra 4x4 for well below a few dimes already built to the hilt by DMZ. I'm glad I didn't have to spend the money to build this. I will be however, adding my own personal touches and improvements when I can.

Contemplating linking it, supercharging it, and caging it. We'll see how that pans out. I've got my "me time" split between the 5th gen 4Runner build as well as a psuedo reconditioning of a stray 86 Toyota pickup 4x4 I rescued from the street corner.

The down and dirty Bump Pumper details:

    Front:
    • 3.5" Camburg long travel with working 4x4
    • 2.5 Fox coilovers, 2.5 triples, 2.0 bumps
    • strapped at 13" of travel
    • DMZ front shock hoops and engine cross bar
    • Spindle gussets
    Rear:
    • DMZ rear SUA
    • Deaver C-27s
    • TC shackles
    • DMZ bed cage with 2 vertical spares and receiver hitch
    • 2.5 Fox triples, 2.0 bumps
    • strapped at 17" of travel
    • Custom storage box
    • DMZ skid jack

    Lighting:
    • BD HIDs
    • BD amber dust lights (front)

    Armor:
    • DMZ front bumper
    • DMZ rear bumper/cage
    • DMZ sliders
    Wheels/Tires
    • BFG ATs 315/75/16
    • M/T Classic III wheels x6
    Drivetrain
    • 4.56 Gears
    • Total Chaos 4WD Long Travel 4340 Axles +3.5
    • TRD LSD

    Interior:
    • Pioneer NAV
    • LED lighting
    • Cluster converted to Blue LED
    • Wired for ham radio
    • Yellow Box speedo calibrator
    • Corbeau FX1 Pro
    • Corbeau harnesses

Thanks! It reminds me of my old 05 Taco single cab LT truck, except this one has the powa! donuts for days. :)

Went ahead and replaced the stock front seats with some Corbeau fiberglass fixed backs. They make a bigger difference than I thought they would. I'm used to race seats on a race track, and they do offer support, but the benefit is not nearly as noticeable on a smooth racetrack as it is on dirt. I feel waaaay more connected to the truck now. Steering this thing through turns is razor sharp compared to the disconnected numbness on the stock seats. I can't emphasize enough what a difference these seats make in driving off road. Not to mention the added safety and back support these things have. Money well spent in my opinion.

I went with Corbeau over Sparco and others for several reasons:
    1) they make a fiberglass fixed back seat in several sizes.
    2) they actually make a seat bracket for the 05 Tundra. Sparco does not.
    3) the seat bracket includes the sliders! Sparco does not.
    4) cost for the brackets, sliders and seats is half as much as the Sparco seats alone.
    5) Corbeau is proven (proven enough for my needs)
    6) I don't need anything FIA certified, although it would be nice, but damn that gets expensive.

Here's the part numbers and cost from Solo Performance if anyone is interested:

    CBS-E2027T 1 Corbeau Seat Bracket For 00-06 Tundra Passenger Side 119.00 119.00
    CBS-E2026T 1 Corbeau Seat Bracket For 00-06 Tundra Driver Side 119.00 119.00
    CBS-29501P 2 Corbeau FX1 Pro Black Cloth 339.00 678.00
    Subtotal 916.00
    Shipping Cost (Standard Ground) 60.00
    Total $976.00
    Amount Paid 976.00

    The belts are
    Corbeau 2" 3-Point Lap and Harness Belt Bolt-In (Black) - 43201B 99.00 each

What I like about the belts is, easy to install, and they disconnect behind the seat making it easy to move out the way of the back seat when you need to. My only gripe with them is the lap adjustments are a bit cumbersome to use. They are pretty much set it and forget it.

This is how I have the harnesses setup:

Took a ride up Carpenter Canyon this weekend. The entrance is off of 160 in Pahrump and is about 5 minutes from my house. Went up to the campsites which I think is near the end of the road. This looks like a fun place to camp when the river is running. There is some water up there now, but just a trickle. The trail is nothing a stock truck can't do. It was fun though. Especially the first leg which takes you through the desert into the foothills on a banked twisty washboarded road. Was fun running it in the Tundra. Got up there hella fast.
Caught the sunset on the way back.

Mostly finished my on-board air setup this weekend. It will also provide air for the rear-locker once that's installed. The bed box is proving to be extremely useful.

    MOAB November 2018

A few weeks back I was finally able to make it out to Moab for the first time. I went out there with a few Utah co-workers who had been before. We hit Poison Spider the first day, and Hell's Revenge the second day. Out of the group, I was the only one who ventured through Hell's Gate.
It was a blast, and it may have ruined off-roading for me because it's going to be nearly impossible to top Moab. My next goal is the Rubi.
One thing I did learn is, "Al Tundy" is a great crawler in addition to being a great desert runner. It could however benefit from a rear locker. (I have one currently sitting on my garage floor). I must say though, I used no bi-passes on the trails, and not one line was pulled. Also, I really should get some protection for the bedsides behind the tires. They're really exposed and I spent a lot of time being concerned about thrashing them. Thankfully, they made it unscathed.
I can't say the same for the passenger rear spring. I snapped the main leaf right in front of the hanger. This happened after finishing Poison Spider, the next day driving through town of all places on the way to Hell's Revenge. I ended up bandaging it with a 3300lb rated ratchet strap. I wasn't about to go limping home, and ran the entire Hell's Revenge trail with a broken leaf. It actually held, and did really well. I just couldn't fully utilize the sandy whoop section of any of the trail though. Next time.

Anyhoo, here's a few pics from the trip. Enjoy! I sure did!
(I'm working on a Hell's Gate video and will have a link here when that's completed)

I finally had time to install the new Deaver C27s. I replaced them because not only did I break one of the main leaves at Moab, but they were due for replacement. Just a guess, that this build is at least 8 years old, and the Deavers look original to that build. I'm not disappointed at all with the spring lifespan. Shit happens, nothing is indestructible, and I drive the shit out this truck on the whoops.
Just an fyi for anyone who's interested, the C27s are made to order now, and lead time is 6 weeks. I ordered mine from Archive Garage $800 shipped. Not bad.

Install was easy once I figured out the order of operations. Front of spring first, then install the shackle onto the back of the spring, then install the shackle into the rear mount, and lastly line up the axle onto the "center pin", then U bolts. Tighten everything down, ride around a bit, then tighten again.

Keep posting Tundra stuff Rob! You’re definitely helping me with info since I am in the works of collecting parts to start building one.

Curious what length shackle are you running with the C27’s?

NP man. The shackle is 6" I'm assuming the proper way to measure a shackle is center of the hanger mounting bolt to center of spring mounting bolt.
