?

Should I put the alarm mfg. stickers in the windows of the doors?

  1. Yes. Let them know you have a sophisticated alarm

  2. No. Keep them guessing. Fewer clues are better.

My truck came with VIN numbers etched on all the windows might be a good idea...

Just like in American History X.....

If someone tries to steal my Taco, they will die if I am close by. Not that I want to but I have no 2nd thoughts on taking a life of someone who endangers mine, my property or my family and friends.

If not, hopefully the alarm and the LoJack will slow them down and get them caught.

I do not have a warning-sticker on my truck, just the blinking beacon and the mini antenna so they are given enough "fair" warning IMHO. It all comes down to Risk vs. Reward for the thief.

No offense, but the window etch is nothing but a profit adder for the dealership. New vehicles already have the VINs in about 6 differrent places, what does a thief care about a few more on the windows. And with a Dremel and some jewelers polish, you can easily "erase" it.

It costs the dealership about $25 to do the VIN etch, and they add $3-400 to the price of the vehicle.

When I bought my 350Z, it was a $349 adder, printed right on the invoice. I told them I refused to pay it. They said since it was already "installed", they had to charge me. So I told them to just forget the deal. They called me back after about 2 hours and said they would deduct the $349 from the selling price.

My truck has the stock anti-theft blinking red LED warning. I have wired in a very difficult to locate kill switch. The first round in my shotgun is rubber buckshot. All have been used and work well.

Well firstly...don't give em a reason to break in.

If your truck has a GPS mount (with or without unit) just sitting there, or other electronics they might want, of course they'd rather break into your truck than the car parked next to you with nothing showing inside.

It stuns me sometimes to see people's blackberrys, ipods, iphones, and what have you just sitting there in the cup holder or in plain sight for any opportunistic thief to get.

etched glass is stupid imo. and looks stipid. my 2012 has it as part of ToyoguardElite...like posted above...it's just a profit tool for SE Toyota/dealership.

my 2010 did not have have glass etched. If I buy a 2014...it will not.

fortunately, we live in an area where vehicle theft/break-ins are really not an issue.

Badgers, I don't need no stinking Badgers.
Alarm stickers never work, a smart thief will just peel them off.

A blinking red light is the best fake alarm.
