Alexa Update (2019 Tacoma)

Anyone else receive the update to the “older” entune headunit that now includes Alexa integration? Not perfect but a nice addition... finally.

 

Just got it setup in mine too. Have you used the directions yet? How do they show on the screen if at all?

 

I’m literally trying to figure that out right now. Not having luck yet. Will let you know if I get it to work.

 

My 2018 JBL updated yesterday, but I didn't pay attention. I just looked and I have Alexa available. I'll have to try it out later.

 

Great now the NSA is in my Tacoma...

 

I guess it just won't happen on the 2017 models...

 

I downloaded it but haven't tried to set it up yet. What do you do to enable it?

 

Not sure.. but I only found out about the update once I opened the Entune app on my phone. Apparently I haven’t been logged in for a few days through the app and once it connected to my headunit the update popped right up. Maybe give that a try if you haven’t already.

 

You’ll need to “allow access” through Alexa. I think when I opened up the Entune app on my phone (must have Bluetooth disconnected from truck to actually view the Entune app settings) I selected the Alexa link and followed directions from there. It’ll direct you to your Amazon.com account so you can allow the truck access to your trucks Alexa app. Let me know if that helps at all

IT IS. I have the 2017 TRD OR and it asked me to update yesterday. I have my phone bluetoothed to the truck audio and have Entune app on my phone. what are the benefits to having Alexa on the car audio?

 

On my entune app on my android phone I signed into my Amazon prime account and went out to my 2017 truck and turned on the bluetooth. I asked Alexa to play Blues music and SRV started playing. Lots of other info and all you have to do is ask Alexa, I'm liking this entune upgrade a lot! Enjoy.

It’s definitely not going to be something that everyone will enjoy or want to use. For me, however, I can now utilize Amazon Music through my truck from just my voice. I drive all day, everyday for work so this is a great solution for me. Plus I have Amazon Prime which already includes Amazon Music so that’s a nice feature in my opinion.

Also, in my area some radio stations I listen to don’t quite reach all locations I travel. So now I can ask Alexa to play a certain radio station and it’ll revert to iHeartRadio. I know iHeartRadio is already included on these radios but I no longer need to play around with the screen. Might sound minimal, but for me it’s welcoming.

Hopefully some new and better features will continue for our “older” (but not old at all) head units. At least they haven’t completely gave up on us.. I suppose lol.

 

Is the Apple Carplay update next?

 

I have a 2017, Alexa updated onto mine yesterday, and yes, it works for the most part.

You need to have your phone connected and the Entune app on it. You'll get a pop up on the radio about an update. Download (will use your phones data link i assume) and install it.

What is everyone using it for besides telling it to play music?

 

Do you have the Entune app on your phone and bluetooth enabled on the phone, and your phone paired to the radio? After those are done, it should just ask to be updated.
