ok I didnt mention in my old story, that they replaced an injector, and then it failed again and they replaced it again, and then it failed again!

then they replaced them all. no problems since.

The leaky gasket thing is concerning. If you can I would take it to a mechanic you trust and just have him check it visually. see what they say, I would also get a sample of your oil and send it to test. Just in case. So you can start covering your bases for the next time this happens.

As unfortunate and concerning it may be you need to drive it so it happens again. If you dont feel like messing with it, then maybe think about trading it in.

Good thing is you have it documented and they did all those repairs with warranty.

EDIT: you are also the 3rd of 4th user I have seen talk about bad injectors too on 3rd gens so thats a little strange too. injectors going bad is super weird.

Just had the truck serviced at Toyota (35,000 mile service)- also purchased a maintenance agreement when I bought the truck, so they have done all the maintenance since I bought it with 19,000 miles. I checked by Vin # at Toyota.com and previous to my buying it, it only shows general maintenance done by Toyota, so no history of any issues.

Just saw your edit... I have searched the web for 3rd gen injector issues and not come up with anything.... so guessing it’s not widespread, and with the number of 3rd gen Tacoma’s out there......

yea youre just gonna have to keep driving in until it fails again. So have your numbers on speed dial, water, bags ready for when it happens just in case youre in a weird spot.
This a strange situation to be in so its gonna be hard for anyone here to truly help you, and the dealers dont really diagnose they just replace parts until the problem goes away.

If theres no codes or they cleared, then they cant really replace anything...

But they will come back no doubt, i agree with some of the users that its probably a sensor or something thats faulty. You have all new injectors, no way they are all bad in 3k miles... you could dip them everyday in water and let them soak overnight plug them in and they probalby still wouldnt go bad in 3k miles lol.

That’s what I’m afraid of..... my elderly Mom lives 600 miles away and I have to drive through Atlanta to get there..... the thought of the truck stalling out in the middle of Atlanta scares the hell out of me.... Cannot afford to trade it right now otherwise I would.....

That sucks, but you can also escalate the situation and just go drop it off and yell at them and tell them this pos left me stranded and now youre telling me nothings wrong no way.

call the manager have them look further, and they probably get a toyota tech to come look at it. i had to do the same thing with the sierra, when I told them "you cant just keep replacing injectors until im out of warranty". youre gonna need to figure out the problem.

then also bring up the old codes and bring in your old receipt.

Take it out of service and drive it right back in. tell them it left you stranded and you want it checked. It is BS but it is what it is.

the worst they can do is tell you no and refuse the vehicle (i doubt it)

LOL... since I’m female and over 60 maybe that would work.... They told me yesterday that they had been on the phone with Toyota Tech.... I have no reason -at this time - to NOT believe them....

yea when I had my problem i had to really fight them to get them to really take a look at it. dealers just replace parts, the corporate techs are the ones that diagnose and try to figure out whats going on. Due to warranty the dealer cant really go poking around (and I wouldnt want them too).

although it happened to me 3x times to me in the span of a month so i had a much shorter fuse than you do probably at this point and they were running out of things to tell me that broke..

OP this sound like a bad Cps sensor or fuel pump issue like the guys at the beginning said. I used to have a chevy blazer that did the same thing. It suddenly shut down and wont start back up. I toll it to my chevy dealer and they replace a bunch of crap but the car would startup again. I take it home and then a couple days later it would stall and die again. After a couple tries of going back and forth took it to a different dealer and they found it was the CPS sensor. Change that and my chevy work like a charm again. It has 200k miles on it but it had so much problem. I just gave it away for free.

They called me today to let me know Toyota Tech has been sent all the info from this time as well as when it was there in Jan. They have driven it 150 miles and it hasn’t missed a beat. Options offered were pick it up and hope for the best, or leave it with them a few more days to hopefully have it act up again and a repair found. It did have a code when it was brought in but I didn’t get the number. He said it had to do with the injection system again, but last time the truck wouldn’t run for them.... this time it is.... scratch head..... we opted to leave it with them a couple more days....

Sounds like they didnt fix anything and want you to take it back. A car stalling is not normal at all, it is actually dangerous. If they cant find the problem, you might need to find a new dealer.

Buy the crankshaft positions sensors and replace them your selves. As many others have said...solid bet. Dealer is waste of time

The fact that they can't figure it out doesn't mean there isn't a problem, it only means they don't have the required skills.

Do not underestimate the value of pointing that out to them

They acknowledged there was an issue, just that it’s not happening now and they don’t know what it was. That’s why we left it with them for a few more days, so hopefully something will show up and it can be remedied.
If they can’t I’ll prob do as Marcmtb1 suggested above and buy a CPS and hubby and I will install it.

Personally, I would not have made the choice to leave the truck with them. You just gave them permission to drive it anywhere and everywhere they want. Just sayn.....

Yes, I did.... I want them to hopefully experience the problem... much rather it happen to them then me, so it can then get repaired.

Ask for or to look at the old injectors. Just to insure said injectors were in fact replaced. Do this with any other parts that were replaced.
