Injection pump might be going out. Debris in injectors, replace for temp fix, then more debris kills the new ones.

My bad. Sorry that happened and that you get it worked out. Would bad fuel cause this?

Was told yesterday that they have decided to replace the computer...... so I’m wondering if they are doing that because they cannot really figure out what happened? I am not in the position financially to trade vehicles, otherwise I would consider doing so....... I have had a lot of Toyota vehicles over the years and never had to tow one (well, there was the one I completely wore the clutch out on and we had to tow home LOL)... until this one. I have to believe this repair will take care of what ail’s it....

To be completely honest, that is usually the way to go unless you have a very clear picture of the exact issue. Cars are so complicated these days, the same issues can often be caused by many things. Usually if the problem is intermittent or hard to diagnose, you are left with traditional troubleshooting. Find the variables that most easily eliminate the largest amount of possibilities and repeat until you have an answer. The dealership can do this differently than an individual as it would get expensive quickly if you replaced the injectors, then the computer, etc. They have resources we don't. That was a long way of saying that, yes, they do not know what the issue is and are trying to eliminate possibilities. Did they replace the cps as stated on page 1. That sounded like a likely cause.

To my knowledge they have not replaced the cps.... I have inquired about it with them, but have not received a reply about it. Thinking if it has not been replaced when I get it back, that the hubby and I will replace it ourselves just to be sure.

I wouldn't do that yet. If you still have issues and have to bring it back in they will take exception to other work being done. It makes troubleshooting a lot tougher if variables change during the process. I wouldn't touch it until warranty is up.

What is the warranty period on it? I am out of factory, but did purchase an extended warranty. I have about 35,000 miles on it....

I would wait until the end of the extended warranty, and only change it out if you have issues sometime down the road not covered under warranty. If they are addressing this issue under warranty, they will continue to work it out until it is fixed.

OK! Was able to pick up the truck today. Its about a 40 mile drive one way, and most of that is interstate, so was able to put it through its paces. It is for sure shifting differently than it was, but guessing thats because its "new brain" has to learn my driving habits. The idle feels smoother, and got 21mpg on the way home @75mph. Diagnostic showed codes P09024, P020113, and 160500 . They opened a TAS case and after testing this n that and about 200 miles of driving were told to replace the ECM.... so they did.

So is all good now? Computer replacement resolved the issue long term?

Yes, so far all is good. Fuel mileage actually went up a couple mpg. Had to get used to the transmission doing its thing, but I believe we have an understanding now LOL. Last week drove about 1200 miles round trip to visit with my Mom and all was well. Thanks for asking....
