I bought a toyota fob awhile back and went through the steps to try to program it, no go. I guess my question is it possible to add keyless entry to a vehicle that didn't come with it?

Someone chime in if I'm wrong here, but IIRC the 4cyl Tacomas do not have immobilizers/chipped keys.

I guess my post got overlooked so I will post it again

If I order one off your eBay listing will it be like the one that ziggynagy did the write up on here http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/pro...ey-review.html ? I would like one that looks like that with the two buttons to unlock and lock my truck and the panic button on the side. Thanks

So far, so good! Great shipping speed. Ordered Thursday night, had it Saturday afternoon. I'll hopefully have a chance to get the key cut Monday and programmed. Looks and feels identical to my sister-in-law's Jetta key. (I don't have it fully clicked together yet in this photo)

Also, as an FYI for anyone who's never owned a VW and taken one of these keys apart, the immobilizer chip is in the top part of the fob with the key blade. With that said, if anyone is planning on cutting open one of their current keys to steal an already programmed immobilizer chip (I will be using my valet key as a donor) you will need to carefully remove the Toyota logo sticker with an exacto knife, remove a small phillips head screw then take the top part of the key apart. Be very careful doing this as the switchblade key is spring loaded and the spring will shoot across the room if you aren't paying attention. Once the top is open keep track of all the parts and how they go back together so that once you've slipped the existing immobilizer chip into the key fob you know how to put it back together. I can try to take some pictures of this step if anyone is interested. I plan to do it early next week after I have a chance to take the blank key to the Hardware store and have it cut.

On a side note, I paid for a VW style switchblade key on Thursday and it arrived in the mail yesterday! And given that my previous car was a 2012 VW Jetta and I'm quite familiar with these keys I wanted to let everyone know that this Toyota switchblade key feels every bit as sturdy and "OEM quality" as the two OEM VW keys I was given when I bought my Jetta. Two thumbs up to neneago as a seller and for offering quality products!

    Correct for OEM VW keys.
Incorrect for my flip keys. Mine has a chip slot that is accessible without taking anything apart. Just put a little glue and slide chip inside. Done!

Update: very fast shipping 3days to arrive across country , received my flip key. As stated before key is quality of oem

I was able to program the fob to lock/unlock/panic using these directions very simple
    http://www.programyourremote.com/mobile/classified/-toyota-tacoma-listing-7381.aspx
after programming the key I did a distance test. the Distance frequency of the flip key to lock/unlock was not as far as my oem key but works a decent distance.

Unfortunatly I was not able to program the chip (immobilize) with the YouTube procedure or the posted directions from neneago.
So will have my buddy at toyota just program it for me free after I get it cut... Will post up when complete

The chip is simply glued in the flip key portion of the key. Right of key with tab of glue on it inplace. E0461AA6-1AEE-477B-850C-1F4251C9A850_zps_cc2c6c3f4eb87db1b4012cea9ddcba330abd8e56.jpg

Thanks again neneago for the key and information

v2 is here, tested... Works 100%

Was expecting them to burn onto the newest board. Did not happen. The board does hava a few less parts and its inside an oem remote module BUT its not the one IC chip board I was expecting.

v1 goes directly inside OEM key.
v2 and v3 go into a remote module, the module then goes into OEM key.

I thought I was getting the circuit board from v3. Maybe in the future.

Just talked with engineer. Currently they can't burn firmware onto v3 board. They gave me an estimate of about 6 months.

Cut me a deal with the boards they sent. Price has been bumped down a bit.

Cut for $1 at my local hardware store, programmed in my driveway with Techstream in under 5 minutes. Works great! Love the new look and feel! Definitely recommended!

All orders placed 10/27 + will now have v2 board for the remote keys.

Once flip keys sell out, they will no longer go on sale.

I want to focus my time and money on the remote keys.

Anybody get the remote programmed on this key in a 2014? I followed all the instructions I could find here and everwhere else on the internet for opening and closing doors, inserting and removing keys, etc, and cannot get the vehicle to go into programming mode for the remote.

I realize I'm going to have to use an OBD programmer to get the G chipped immobilizer key programmed, but I can't seem to get the remote programmed.

    Thanks for any help.

Toyota is phasing out the self programming for remotes on all models. Started with Camry model in 2007. Eventually all will require OBD equipment to program keyless entry.
