@SRH Hope things work out for Austin. Is it a possible career ending injury or will it just take a while for him to fully recover? I sure hope the UFC steps in to cover his medical bills.

UFC does cover all medical. I’m not sure how familiar you are with Compartmental Syndrome. It’s where a trauma, in his case a kick, causes the muscle to swell. The facia that covers the muscle needs to be cut open to relieve the pressure from all of the swelling. If it’s not done within a certain timeframe the swelling cuts off blood supply and oxygen to the muscle and the muscle will die. This could potentially be career ending but just depends if the surrounding muscles could cover for it. However, it would be somewhat of a hinderance. (If I understood everything correctly) Then the cut is left open to relieve the pressure. Austin was beyond that time frame. One of the muscles was showing signs that it was in trouble. He had a second surgery last night and the muscle showed improvement so we have every reason to believe the muscle is still alive. He will have a 3rd surgery towards the end of the week. If they can get his leg closed up great. If not, there will be a 4th surgery for a skin graph. He is doing great after the second surgery and in great spirits. It was a relief to know that muscle made improvement from the first surgery:) Thanks :)

Here’s to hoping #3 does the trick! If I can say so, thanks for setting a great example for martial arts parents. My boys are young ,but they love training and the sport just like their dad. I’m trying to steer them away from striking arts but failing miserably. I fear I have a long road ahead, one you probably know WAY too well lol.
