Okay so everybody says to buy the engine cleaner and wipe it down with a damp rag, but if you can see by the pictures I have a lot to clean in many hard to reach places.
I know many of you do desert runs and I'm sure you get this all the time....what do you guys do? Do you take it to those self car wash places and spray your engine bay with that stuff? I don't know. Help!

You bought engine degreser right. Leave truck on spray the engine stuff on then like solus694 said low pressure. Once clean I used to spray armoral all over. of course engine still on then rev engine few times. you want to leave your engine on if you get your plugs too wet it wont start.

    • leave engine on
    • spray degreaser
    • pressure wash all the stuff off on low
    • keep engine running to dry stuff off

Sounds good. Just make sure to leave it on during and afterwards. When I used to detail, engine was always first then we washed and waxed outside with engine still on.

Exactly, just leave it running and you can spray the whole thing. Let's see some after pictures:D

I totally agree with you. After I came back from the trip that did that to my engine bay I drove around for about a month and decided to get the AFE pro dry-s air filter and when I put it in I noticed a seriously large improvement in throttle response. The air filter that came with the truck was super dusty and dirty.
But then again detailers swear that if you have a clean engine bay your car will run better.

Don't spray cleaner on a warm engine it'll just cook on.

I clean my engine by spraying heavy duty simple green all over the engine. I let it soak for 10 or 15 minutes then just spray it off with a regular hose.

    It works very well.

Make sure you cover any electric components with plastic bags and rubber bands. Especially your alternator!

Leave enging on? LOL!! NO NO NO!. Clean it while its cool, Cover up any expensive electrical components under the hood, then clean it. After you are done, either dry with compressed air (the best way) or let it dry on it's own. Dont run it or turn it on until its dry!

The last thing you want to do is clean it while the engine is running! If you do, you run the risk of shorting out just about everything. Water is an EXCELLENT conductor and can fry stuff quite easily.
