Ended up not being the brushes. Looks like its the Diodes and Regulator. The regulator alone is $150, so I might as well just buy Toyota one for 200.

Looks like it might just be a used part that hopefully still works. I'm not sure how they refurbished it. Sometimes refurbished means they just cleaned off the outside.

Did you actually remove the rectifier and check each diode with the diode test setting on a multimeter like in the page of the repair manual posted above?

If the diodes are all good and the brushes are good, then the regulator maybe shorted out. I'm not sure how to test the regulator. I believe the test is performs with the alternator installed and running. Was there a lot of dirt/mud inside the alternator?

And did you ever check you ALT fuse (or maybe it's ALT-S)? Maybe the water just caused a temporary short.

I have them all separated out in folders via PDF so I just go up to the main folder and search (control+F on keyboard) for "alternator" or other key term and it narrows it down versus trying to decipher the codes like you said.

Just replaced it. Everything works as it should!

Another question, I am planning on doing all of the diff, trans and x-fer case fluids.

    https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...2001/toyota/tacoma?q=gear+oil+-+75w-90&pos=14

I am planning on using this in everything besides the transmission (using MT-90). However, it says it has LSD additives in it and I cant find a version without them. Is this safe for the truck? or do they have an option without the LSD additive Im not finding?
