Has anyone purchased a double cab short bed aluminum camper shell yet? Are they even for sale, do they exist?

You have one? Show me pics and leave information please!

    Thanks!

There's tons of options out there... From your well known ARE & Leer (and similar Century, Ranch, Univcover, etc.), to Tradesman and Alu-cab. There's also new stainless ones coming out from South Africa (RLD Designs, and new RSI just coming to America).

    Here you go: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/commercial-shells-especially-on-dcsb.434505/

    Tradesman: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tradesman-truck-tops-commercial-style-topper-shell.504188/
    RLD: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/new-in-the-usa-rld-design.593043/
And the main forum for all tonneaus and caps... https://www.tacomaworld.com/forums/tonneau-covers-caps-and-shells.198/

That should keep you busy. Welcome!

Alu-cab and RDL look really good. The other tend to look like a contractor type while the above mentioned look like expedition grade.
When time is right that's what I will look at.

Wow out of all these top of the line caps, the RSI is so sick. Not to say that they aren’t all freaking awesome.

I know about those other common name brands like leer, aRE, snug top

How about the most basic (cheap) aluminum camper shell tho, Has anyone purchased one yet for the 3rd gen?

The very basic non-contractor duty, Unicover ~$1200 ones? This guy has an access cab but it's still 3rd gen: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...luminum-cap-toolbox-and-camping-setup.477735/

Where do you live? The RSI is currently in pre-order but I'd be cautious if you live somewhere that gets a lot of rain or any snow/ice. They use the small latch style closures which have a lot of reports of freezing up (same style used on RLD, Alucab, GFC, etc.) And the modular assembly design while cool and makes for easy shipment, doesn't lend confidence to being particularly weathertight. I don't doubt it's strong and probably well made, but designed around South Africa conditions (why they've all got positive air vents).
