Here is a discussion on aluminum vs steel for rockers and sliders. Scroll down a few posts and there's an interesting write-up from Nemesis Industries, an off-road group that specializes in making all aluminum hardware. He covers equal strength weight differential, corrosion, galling. His opinion is that galling is the only drawback of aluminum sliders and that it is outweighed by the advantages. He also includes a link to an interesting article on aluminum vs steel properties with regard to boat construction.

Any idea how much the AP alumi-APEX sliders weigh?

Someone mentioned using rubber washers between the aluminum accessory and the steel frame. Do not use rubber anything next to unprotected aluminum. Rubber has a high carbon content and carbon causes corrosion in bare aluminum. It would be better to use plastic washers against bare aluminum.

Not sure about actual sliders for the Tacos, but I have run some 1/4" thick T6 aluminum "sliders" (2 x 3 angle) on my 40 for decades and they have held up quite well. Yes they get scratched up on the bottom, but the 40 is about 5k and the sliders simply reinforce the cut off body panel and no issues.

Thanks...I've had her for almost 30 years...bought it fairly stock in 87 and built what was then a Bad Ass Rock Rig...now she is simply old school with all the wild stuff folks are building, but still a lot of fun and will do most of the nasty stuff as long as you take your time...the Marlin Toy Box at 140:1 helps make up for the "puny" 35's I'm running.
