I typically prefer to work with private sellers, but there seem to be slim pickings of late 2nd-gen MT Tacomas in the tri-state/northeast area where I live.

I came across this one but I'm hesitating because, well.. it's used car dealer. The best I can do with my limited knowledge is take it to a local Toyota dealer for an inspection.

Any thoughts / red flags I should be aware of...?

    Many thanks!

I’d definitely get a good look at the underside and more of the frame, especially the insides of the rails near the cats.

Will do. Does anything under the hood look out of place?

From the pictures it kinda looks like someone spray painted the frame over some suspicious looking imperfections? 2012-toyota-tacoma-base-4x4-4dr-access-cab-6-1-ft-sb-5m.jpg

The Carfax shows the following.. maybe explains the appearance?

    12/16/2020
    • Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc.
    • Manufacturer Service Campaign issued
      • Campaign #K0D LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN K0D (REMEDY
      • NOTICE) - CERTAIN 2011 - 2017 MODEL YEAR TACOMA -
      • FRAME CORROSION RESISTANT COMPOUND (CRC)
      • APPLICATION
      • Campaign expiration date: 01/31/2023

Also something suspect there in the top right in that undercarriage shot...

Looks like a spot of rust. But I don't think that's a structural crack if that's what you're worried about. Tough to tell from the photos though.

Treat this the same as buying any used vehicle.

GET YOUR MECHANIC TO INSPECT IT. Bumper to bumper, concrete to roof. Pay the mechanic a fee for his time. Then TEST DRIVE IT.

If the dealer balks at these simple and common tasks, walk on to the next truck.

Looks good. As suggested, have it inspected by a mechanic you trust. If that goes well, I'm sure it'll give you plenty of years miles and smiles. Manual transmission, yes.

Personal preference, I would never own a green vehicle due to what I was told by my mechanic uncle, anything that can go wrong will go wrong if it's green. Probably not true, but maybe, no disrespect uncle Ted.

There's tons of places in the Philly area that sell used Tacomas and many sit on their lot a long time, which tells you people have looked at it and passed. I'd buy from a private seller that'll give you the complete history.

There are possibilities for rust and corrosion. Best idea is to use a mechanic.
