    Hey TW!
First off, this is not a for sale ad. I am trying to gauge if you guys think I am ripping off my co-worker or if he’s getting a good deal?!
I am selling my old daily driver. I looked at NADA, which says it ain’t worth a sink full of dirty dishes, then you have local stealerships asking upwards of 5k on autotrader for similar vehicles. I think this is one of those cases of “fair market value” and I’m interested in your guys’ input.
Tonight my coworker said he wanted to look at the Jeep I have for sale.
I slapped a for sale sign on it today asking 3k. I told him I’d take 2500 for it and I think he’s gonna buy it tomorrow.
My question is, do you think my price is fair? I realize how subjective this is which is why I’m asking a nationwide forum. What are your thoughts? Here’s the specs:
    2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    4x4/4WD
    Auto trans
    4.0L 6cyl
    158k miles
    New tires 10/19 (6k ago) $682
    Brakes/rotors 3/19 (10k ago) $893
    New water pump (10/19)
    Full WeatherTech liners

It’s worth noting: the Jeep has been nearly flawless the entire time I’ve owned it. Water pump failed and I noticed it before it overheated. Immediately replaced with a “lifetime” pump. This summer, I smelled antifreeze at a red light and got home and saw a small hole in the upper radiator hose, which I replaced and filled with fresh AF.
HOWEVER, I do watch the gauge religiously out of paranoia, and I see that the water temp DOES fluctuate as I drive around under normal conditions. It doesn’t go above 210, ever, no matter what the heater or AC is set to. But do you guys think I have a coolant issue going on that’s going to pop up after I sell it to my work buddy??
    Please school me

My sister's 2008 JGC just blew up; it had 70k miles. I was looking to see what she could get. She liked the JGC.

From my (very) brief research, seems like a decent deal. Wait for others more knowledgeable to reply...

$2500 seems like a decent deal for a clean maintained one, they don't hold their value too well but I wouldn't be afraid at that price at all.

It’s worth what he is willing to pay at the end of the day. If you guys can’t come to terms then it wasn’t meant to be. I personally think it’s a decent deal for a 4 wheel drive vehicle with some life left

You guys rock, thank you. It is definitely a “what’s it worth to YOU” situation.
I figure most running vehicles in ok shape are work 1000-1500 bucks. I just want to feel confident I’m selling him something reliable at a fair price.
I guess it’s for his daughter as her first car which is ideal in my opinion.
I’m sure the 17 year old girl will want something “cuter” long before this thing grenades anyway

I think it’s a good deal for him, but for your sake I hope he passes.

If anything ever goes wrong with the truck, even years down the line, you know he’ll be coming to you about it. That’s why you sell to strangers.

I've seen this happen a few times, a friend or co-worker who purchased it, comes back later complaning about brakes, needing a valve job etc. Just make sure it's clear it is sold "AS IS".

That's a pretty good price for a good running 4x4 JGC.

Check CarGurus, Autotrader, FB Marketplace, etc to get a good idea of what similar GCs are selling for in your area.

The 2003 and 2004 are the best years of WJ GC since most of the early bugs are worked out of them.

You routinely see those for sale with well over 200k on them.

One thing I would do if you haven't already is check/repair the wires in the driver door boot as they are prone to getting brittle and cracking/breaking, which causes random power door lock and power window issues.

Or at least be sure to mention that to him so that when (not if) it happens he doesn't think the vehicle is possessed.

It’s worth the $2500 to someone you do not have to see everyday at work.

I'd say $1800-2000 would be more fair but if he's willing to pay $2500 why not? As others have said it's a bad idea to sell a used car to a friend/relative/coworker. If the engine somehow blows up in a week or the tranny falls out in two weeks or any other possible serious problems arise their will probably be some resentment and animosity from the buyer. Then you will have to see this person on the regular and its gonna be awkward.

In 2010 I sold a '96 Ranger with @ 400,000 miles to a friend for $800... 10 years later, he is still driving it, and I still get to hear about EVERYTHING that goes wrong with it... which, thankfully, isn't a whole lot, but...

I'd rather not do that again...

Honestly if the coworker cant rationalize if its a deal or not, he shouldnt buy it...sounds like a good price.

Thanks, guys. The co-worker is still interested and we talked about my apprehension selling to someone I know. I've been very forthcoming about everything so we'll see. I'm stalling to try to sell it to a stranger lol
