Well I may have made an expensive mistake. Went and looked at a Tacoma and didn't look at the frame near close enough. Had it a few days and was under there messing with something and found out the frame is shot. I understand there was a recall but I'm trying to figure out what the stipulations are. I keep seeing this "12 year" window. Mine's a 2005 so I'm starting to think I'm screwed. Am I understanding this right?

I feel for you O.P. Some 2005 v-6 Tacoma's have Head gasket issues AND motor mount issues $$$$.

I can't speak with any education to what your options are but I can say that you should not drive that truck on the road in its current condition. That's one of the worst holes I've seen on here, most are smaller and that appears to be 1.5 inches or so.

Did you poke that hole or was it there? If it was there, then that means somebody else poked it and therefore somebody else KNEW about this problem and somewhere along the line that information was "left out".

Maybe you can bitch to the previous owner nicely and see if they'll work with you out of the goodness of their heart, it's only been a couple days. Maybe you can get dirty and pay a lawyer a few hundred to send them a letter saying take the truck back or get sued (who cares if you actually have grounds to do it, maybe just the threat would do the trick). Maybe Toyota helps. Maybe you're screwed. I don't know I'm just spitballing.

Take a small ball peen hammer to the frame and systematically go down it giving it smacks as you go. If you get a hole in a spot you two that isna really bad sign. Regardless you are stuck with what you have now and there are plenty of welders all over who can weld in a patch plate if necessary on the spots you already have which have holes in it and the integrity of the frame will still be okay.

You just know the seller knew this and didn’t disclose to the OP.

I sent him a message knowing it wouldn't accomplish much. Of course, he said he had no idea it was like that

Yea, that’s kinda what I figured. It’s kind of hard to avoid bottom feeders nowadays.
