Speaking of bottom feeders. That would be a low life thing to do to somebody.

Damn, thats unfortunate. Ws the seller a member here? And out of pure curiousity, what part of the country was this? Maybe you can find someone selling a frame on here?

Why does buying from dealer vs private party matter and what exactly are the details of the frame replacement campaign from Toyota?

My guess is that theres probably more liability on the dealer's end if they sold it vs "buyer beware" from a private party. I dont think theres lemon laws against a private party.

YMMV. Get a couple of quotes. However, it it has the 4.0 w the older head gasket design and the motor mounts are shot, you might want to see if the seller will do something for you...

    Sorry you’re in this situation

I thought the frame warranty was 10yrs and I thought it was extended for several more years in some model year trucks. Maybe 2005 was not one of the years that was extended?

The condition is 12 years from the the date the truck was first put in use. Regardless of any dates in the paper work I would definitely try to take it in and see what can be done. Because looking at the second picture, I would be nervous driving that at all. Sorry for your loss man. My truck is an 07 and there was no questions asked at my dealer they put me in a rental and replaced it in 3 weeks.

I thought this was a 2nd Gen arrangement, so up to 2015? Not sure, though. I think all 2nd Gens are covered up to 12 years from in-service date. And to be clear, this is not a frame warranty extension - it is a requirement of the settlement of a class action lawsuit.

The bottom line is you are screwed. You payed a lot of $$$ for a piece of $hit. The old adage, buyer beware apples here. Consider it a painful learning experience. You can see what it costs to replace the frame but there may be a lot of other problems with a 15 year old truck. You’ll just have to decide what is best for you as to how to deal with it.
The first bring I’d do is bring it to a frame specialist for their assessment. Then I’d have a trusted mechanic go over the truck and give you his opinion of the truck mechanically. Then you can make a decision as to how to proceed.
I personally would never do this but if the truck accidentally rolled over a cliff...........never mind.

You can always ask for toyota assistance. You would not believe how much shit people get away with with general motors, it wont hurt to ask for some help.

This, while state laws vary re Lemon Law you would almost always be able to hold a dealer liable for this

That's like asking what someone charges for a coffee in California vs. Nebraska. The answer is it varies from shop to shop and state to state. Some have a cheaper labor rate than others.

In a lot of cases you can get a better deal from a private party, but you have no protection if you get screwed. A seedy dealer would have gooped that frame up to make it look nicer and camouflaged the rust. Most private parties wouldn't go that far. The seller himself maybe never looked under the truck, who knows? In either case, a private or a used car lot usually isn't going to tell you about all the negatives on the vehicle; they want to move it. All the op had to do was look under the truck. If you buy from a dealer, it's best to buy used from an upscale car lot than the cliché 'auto row' cheap leather jacket, cigar chomping guy. They will lie through their teeth. In either case, the buyer has to go in prepared to crawl all over that vehicle to look for stuff that doesn't look right.
