I'm normally not a very anal person, but I did do this and Wheel Works still scratched/ gouged two of the outer rings on my Ray-10's. They put their senior guy on it as well. I even told them, that there wasn't going to be another set of them in the country for 4 months, so please be careful. I even met the tire installer and spoke with him a bit. A little frustrating for sure.
Hard to pound curbs with scratched wheels :annoyed:

A couple of years ago America's Tire scratched my wheels on my Santa Fe exactly the same. I noticed it immediately and at first they said no way that their equipment did that. We went in the shop and he inspected the tire changer and there was a bit of grit stuck in it where it contacts the wheel. They offered to have the wheels refurbished. I declined, and they said pick out a new set of comparable wheels. So I kept the stock wheels they scratched for my snow tires. I was totally satisfied with the outcome.

I took my wife's MB to America's Tire Co to get a new set of tires and they scratched one of the factory oe rims. Not super deep or bad, but noticeable from say 5-6' away. Shit happens and people make mistakes. But what really pissed me off was that they were trying to deny in the beginning. At the end, they offered me some kind of repair but instead I got extended, twice longer, full replacement warrantiy on the new tires I purchased,

I feel your pain, Kaltire just scratched up a set of stock wheels on my brand new 2017 Tacoma. They offered to refinish them. Does anyone know if this will be a noticeable fix or there will be any issues long term with repairing the wheels in such a way?

take the deal, they scratched the wheels and will compensate you properly and fairly. Why should they give you more than what they damaged? Shit happens. You never made a mistake?

I feel like this is a subtle ad for America's tires. I'd shop there knowing they stand behind their service.

Op is being a bitch. You paid for a service. Your wheels got damaged. They are fixing the wheels. You got the service you paid for and have nice wheels like when you dropped it off. Wtf is the problem? They made you "whole" they don't owe you anything else.

Edit: there not their.. Duck autocorrect

IMO, They're screwing you over. Did you buy the tires from them? or if you bought them elsewhere and had them install them did you pay an installation fee?

What I was told is they charge you a high installation fee because they take responsibility if they are to damage your wheels in anyway. When I purchased my tires from DiscountTire and had them installed on my wheels, the store manager told me that they charge so much because they take responsibility for your wheels. If they are to damage one of them, they are to repair it (not paint over it) or replace it with a new one. But again, that's what I was told by the manager.

I'd take it to someone at corporate if they won't do the right thing. That's money that came out of your pocket not theirs.

I worked in a tire shop in HS for a few years as well. Nobody's rims got scratched, as we cared about what we were doing. We took time to ensure the equipment was set properly and that plenty of lube was used. We made about $5/hr too. What you make should have zero rationale to do a crappy job.

Additionally, I'll have you know a large Honda dealer scratched all 4 rims on my S2000 putting on new tires. They refused to replace them so I sued them for cost of new wheels from Honda, install costs, and court fees. They paid me $2500. I did not ask for $$ for "my time".

    Agreed 100%

    I'd take the replacement deal.

I'd also ask them why they didn't just throw a 10 lb dumbbell inside the rims to balance, instead of all those little weights.

    ^^^ 100+% Agreed.
Whether a technician gets paid $50 or $5/hr, the quality of service heavily depends on each individual's experience, skill and integrity NOT the hourly rate.

Sounds pretty straight forward.. the messed up and offered to replace them.

On a different note.. those wheels look awesome but the flat face and that flat black are doomed from the start... they will be a disaster if you even go slightly off road. Even on road will be tough. I had a similar set up on my last jeep... pita

When I had my A6, my local audi dealer during routine service washed my Rotiform OZT (raw polished lips) used a heavy degreaser on the wheels (which were 1 week old and not dirty at the time, and I noted with the service manager no car wash). It was standard procedure for their car wash guys as the degreaser isnt harmful to the factory wheels, but raw aluminum forged barrels are a different story. The degreaser massively etched all for wheels since the wheels were 3 piece sandwhich mount the whole wheel had to come apart.

I, because im a normal fucking adult who doesn't expect something extra from an accident had them simply pay to have the lips re-polished, reassembled and mounted and balanced. Audi provided me a loaner allroad while the wheels were being refinished. I lived in Ventura at the time and Rotifrom was in HB, I delivered the wheels to them and didnt even bother asking for gas money. because I didnt feel it was necessary. I didnt make them buy me new wheels, because paint/powder/polish can all be fixed, and to be clear we werent talking about a $200 cast Chinese wheel either, we were talking about a $4800 set of wheels.

They scratched your wheel, man the fuck up and just have them re-finished or replaced. But most importantly stop acting like you deserve a whole slew of extra shit.
