    Here's the rundown:
Shortly after lifting my 2014 Tacoma TRD with a 6 inch coilover kit and getting it aligned, I started to notice a very annoying clunk in the front end when I hit bumps. It happens in both 2wd and 4wd and is more pronounced on more aggressive terrain. The clunk sounds like a low end thud and it kinda feels like someone is underneath the truck pounding on the floorboards with a rubber hammer.

Here are the possibilities I've ruled out so far:
    • Sway bar bushings
    • Steering shaft butting up against the rag joint
    • Zippy tie mod needs done
    • Loose suspension components
    • Loose carrier bolts
    • Loose battery
I hopped under the truck and the inner CV joints have what seems to be an unusual amount of play in them when I shake them. This video (not my video by the way) demonstrates what happens when I shake those joints with my hands:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3aC2KGEgWE

I'm thinking this is the source of my clunk; what do you guys think? If you read the comments posted on the above video, you'll see that those guys are saying it's the needle point bearing inside the front clamshell.

Might have to much preload on coilovers in turn not enough down travel causing noise over bumps.

Holy shit, you may be right. I see 2.5 inches of threads showing above the coilover adjustment ring.

That is alot. Try reducing that. Hopefully that's fixes that noise.

Here's a pic. I'm thinking I'll loosen the collar to reduce the amount of threads showing above it by 1/2. Can you see any problem with that?

No that should be ok. Just make sure you do both sides equal. Then give it a drive. To see if noise went away. My suspension guy told me you want 2 inches of down travel at least. So take a measurement with the truck on its own weight from hub to fender. Then jack it up weight off wheels full extended measure again from hub to fender. Should have a difference of 2 inches.

Check the 4 bolts in crossmember under the transmission.

Mine were loose and perplexed me for 9 months thinking it was a loose component in the front end.

the crossmember going under the transmission / transfer case - there are two bolts that connect it to the tabs on either frame rail. My truck would pop and creak moving forward or backward and I thought it was eithe the coils or LCAs. But I tightened those 4 bolts and the noise stopped.

Thanks guys, I will check the LCA cams and the cross member bolts tomorrow. I wasn't able to adjust the preload on my coilovers because somehow the adjustment screw that locks the collar to the thread is in the back where I can't get to it. I wonder how the hell my mechanic managed to lock the collars??

Also, I did the measurements Jp450 recommended and here's what I found when measuring fender to center of hub cap:
25.5 inches with the truck resting on the wheels
28.75 inches with the truck jacked up

So that's a difference of 3.25 inches (not 2 inches). Looks like I need to take 1.25 inches of preload off the springs... Now if I can just get to that damn allen screw that locks the collar to the threads.

Gotcha. How many foot pounds of torque should be on those bolts?

Those numbers look good. I don't know how old your fox coilovers are but there are some threads on here with guys saying their fox coilovers make a clunking noise. Are you bracket lifted? Or mid travel?

Bracket lifted. The lift kit, including the coil overs, only has 6 weeks of use. This clunking has been occurring for the last 4-5 weeks. It's really getting on my nerves. You'd think that when you drop $3.5K on a lift kit (without the installation), issues like these wouldn't be occurring so soon. Fak...

Are still running stock uca's? Doesn't look like it in picture but can't really tell. Some guys on here remove the sway bar also, some say that fixes it. I had a bracket lifted Titan and it would make that noise but it was my stock uca hitting the coi bucket.

Cool. Well yank the sway bar out that bitch and give it a shot. I took the sway bar off when installing my mid travel set up and rides awesome still safe at highway speeds and ride is smooth on road and especially offroad
