Yep I can’t lie I’ve been actively looking at 5.7L tundras. I’ll take the hit on mpg for reliability and ease of maintaining, etc. but the used market is trash!!!!

If I didn't have the extended warranty I'd probably look at something else. But at this point I've got 40k miles (about 3 yrs based on how many miles I drive) of "house money" to play with. Once I get closer too 100k I'll reevaluate.

I'm curious. Has anyone who doesn't have an extended warranty tried getting one from Toyo or negotiating a reduced price for one after a repair? I just had a conversation with a guy on a Tacoma FB page who tried but Toyo refused to work with him. To me, that says a lot. Toyo knows they have a problem and they're worried about eating another repair bill when another valve goes bad.

I’m well out of warranty. Bought in 2017, and only 19k miles

Jenny is mine as well! She knows of it due to me.. She had a puzzled look when I talked to her, then the tech working on the truck. One tech is out right now, so reason for the wait. The remaining one is working on mine right now. At least he'll be warmed up as he gets to yours!

I communicated with one that received a year extended after the repair. My intent is to push a bit further and see where it goes. I have also talked with 3 folks telling me all-is-good after the repair, this is running into 100K miles afterwards. I've yet to confirm any reoccurring issue. Seems they have a handle on this. I'll update about that as we get there.

This forum is funny about issues with these trucks. So many members are in such denial about issues like this. They think just because they bought a Tacoma that they will never have any problems and the people who do have problems shouldn't make a big deal about it. These are the same people that have never been handed a 5k plus repair bill a few thousand miles out of warranty.

I had a 2019 silverado(new body style) I bought mine when not many were on the road yet. I was part of the group of trucks that started to have lifter failures. The issues started out very isolated but then more and more people chimed in(similar to here). You would always have a few posts per thread on people claiming how their truck has been fine and no issues etc... But on here its like you commit a crime if you post about issues with your truck.

I posted my experience on this thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2gr-fks-engine-problem-failure.774579/

Page 2, post #27. Same as the OP on this current thread. YMMV but it certainly seems like a manufacturing problem and not an isolated incident.

Reason I've been insistent okay maybe rude to those that have. The main goal here is to understand. It's what I do when I have an issue like this and hope that someone else has already done this. What I have learned through this group, another and friends I trust about these issues, I have shared. My my Jon, that has wrenched most his life, hit it right off the bat! Valves!

Ask the right question to enough folks, you'll find the answer. I again thank all those here that have contributed to this!

Haven't learned why it seems to be mainly a bank 1 (cylinder 1,3,5) issue and not the other bank. There was a time that differer spark plugs where used on different banks, so that leads to assembly line and issues on a bank. This issuer speculation on my part! Toyota knows of it and is repairing accordingly. Thankfully!

Jenny is out for a few days so don't bother calling.. Mine is about to come out of there and yours is up next! They looked at me funny when I said I know the next dude in line. I'm in install mode now. Parts were on the floor and new going in. Everything looked very clean, especially compared to what came out. I looked at a very oily/shiny top end! It looked new! Yours should be in Thursday or Friday. Took mine about 5 days, but now he has recent experience with mine, you lucky bast*rd... LOL Hey you may just get it back for the East Overland Festival!

Interesting.. Did you approach Toyota about this? You're the only one on the wrong bank, out of year I've learned of..

Edit: Confusing two folks.. My mistake. Still 36/3 and part of the issue. If on bank 1 I'd re-address with a letter and possibly a few calls. It's a know issue that the dealer may not have done due diligence on.

Thanks for the update! That would explain why she didn't call me back. I'm only 15 minutes way from the shop so I might stop in tomorrow to see here things are at. Not sure if I should thank you for blazing the repair trail, lol. Not the kind of trail we should be cutting with our trucks! They ordered the new head Saturday. Hopefully it's in. If so, and they can get it installed quick enough, maybe I'll have it back in time for my trip to OBX next Friday. I need a 4x4 for the beach driving and to get to the house we rented. What's the East Overland Festival?
