another BHLM (pics)

Wow, did that take awhile! I can't believe so many people have done this. maybe i'm just anal and make it more tedious than it has to be. seems like a job that not so many people would tackle. But it went smoothly. Just another mod on the list. I can't believe how much this site has sucked me in. I can't stop. If i hadn't randomly stumbled across this site, I wouldn't have done anything to the truck probably. I think I've gotten most of the interior/ electronic mods done that i wanted to now... On to suspension/ tires/ performance.... and a build thread.... i never would have thought id say that.. haha enjoy

Definitely a whole afternoon. obviously not actively working the whole time, but i let the paint sit in between coats for at least 30 mins, and the final coat sit for like 4 hrs before i put it all back together. I was really anal about taping off the reflectors and stuff too, so that took me awhile. coulda done it faster i guess, but was jumping back and forth between it and other stuff around the house. Definetely need to start before lunchtime if you wanna drive by sundown.

go up to mods and tutorials at the top right. look up black headlight mod. They are the stock headlights, baked in the oven to peel them apart, painted inside, and put back together.

 

You truck looks really nice! It certainly added a great touch

Nice job by the way. After doing mine, I'd say to allow for about 6 hours to get this mod done, but like you said, a lot of the time is watching the paint dry.

 

yeah. i think that fits in with my start before lunch and drive it by sundown clock. did you tape off everything like i did? i notice a lot of people who did it painted that whole trim piece... the reflector and turn signal were obvious to me, and the corner light i taped off to where I thought it looked right.. just curious. it's been done a bunch of different ways.

I took the relectors out and painted the entire part. No taping off.

 

<grunt> <growl> <cus> <throw the closest pet i can find>.... woke up this morning and my passenger light was fogged. Took it back off again, including the bolt from hell underneath and rotated oven and hairdryer for about an hour to get all the moisture out.... but moral of the story is be very careful to make sure its sealed very well again after you do it. I used clear rtv silicone and it's so clear that its hard to see whether you've sealed it well. once it dried and turned cloudy, it was obvious where there was a hole right in the top. But it's back on now. looking great again. love this mod.
