5 months, a little over 10K miles, and I've had a 2ND windshield crack from a small pebble on the interstate. Seriously what is up with these windshields?!? I've driven hundreds of thousands of miles in the last 15 years on the interstates for my job and I know the difference in sound from a large rock and a small pebble; I swear the glass Toyota is using for these windshields is the thinnest crap I've ever seen.

    Anyone else having this problem?

Just FYI, from what I was told, Toyota made all the glass a bit thinner than the last gen to save weight.

I have had my windshield cracked too. I am not sure about the thickness of the glass on the 3rd gen.

Save weight?? What did they save?? 3-5 lbs?!? Take off some of those stupid warning stickers that are all over the place and give me back a thicker windshield!

If you're assuming that I'm riding someone's ass on the highway, I'm not. Today I was actually going down an acceleration ramp doing about 45 mph when it picked up a chip, and the nearest car in front of me was probably 4-5 car lengths ahead.

I don't know about the changes in glass between 3rd & 2nd but
pretty much all my Toyota Tacomas/trucks 90, 95, 2006 and now my 2013 have needed windshield replacements or glass repair.
A couple times more than once as well.
Dam once with my 95 I was out in the middle of nowhere early a.m. no traffic & crack!
My 1997 Honda Del Sol has never needed a windshield since new.

It's not the windshields fault. Unless you're getting hit by tiny little pieces, then maybe they've started using lower quality. I live in Alaska and because of all the gravel that they put down on the roads here having a cracked or chipped windshield is super common. If your windshield isn't chipped or cracked up here then you're lucky. I had a few chips for a long time and finally got a big crack a few weeks ago across the driver side of the windshield, just takes a high speed piece of rock

I've had tire treads break off from semi trucks that cars in front of me have picked up and thrown up in the air land on previous windshields before (twice in 1 month on my Acura TL) so I'm used to the crap on Atlanta highways and give myself more distance now so I can avoid that kind of stuff. I guess that's why I'm so frustrated now; I don't know if it's the thickness or the angle of the glass but I swear I think a large bug would split these if going a decent speed.

Do you need to know, or care?
I had a rock fly at me on the freeway that actually made me duck, LOL, found a chip in it and took it right away into the glass shop to get it patched. The shop told me, no repair required and sent me on my way at no cost. Surprised the hell out of me, thought for sure it was going to creep over time.

I was just busting your balls. My Tacoma is actually on its second replacement windshield and the current one has two big chips that could spider any day. I owned a Camry for three years and had the same problems. I'm not sure if it's Toyota or bad luck, but I've never had to replace a wondshield on any other brand of vehicle I've owned.
