Do you need to know, or care?
That's about the limit of my luck. :)
Think it more comes down to the trajectory, had it been more straight on it probably would have been worse. But dang, that thing was loud when it struck.

Ok found a dealer and called for a quote - get this...$699!!! For clear window film!!! The poor guy sounded like he was getting excited about making a sale until he heard me laughing at the price. Definitely going to have to find another option...

Whoa, that's really high. And unless there is a guarantee clause, i.e. If windshield breaks we'll replace windshiled at no cost to you.

I'd pay $100-150 bucks for parts and labor.

Yeah max I'd pay for parts / labor would be about $200. My insurance deductible is $100 so I could go through 7 windshields before I covered the cost of that film. I'm calling other tint installations shops to see if there are other options out there.

Never cracked a windshield. Maybe because I always give adequate space between me and car in front of me.

That doesn't mean much when the rock gets kicked up from the other side of the road, falls from an overpass, or hits just the right updraft.

Nah, you probably just don't drive enough on highways. I've barely missed entire wheels/tires bouncing over the center wall before - doesn't matter how much space you leave, whatever goes up, must come down.

I'd call glass shops too. I see your from Atlanta. There is a company near me called ABRA, they do body work, windows in office buildings among other stuff. Maybe they have something they could install.

That's what I thought until it happened to me. Driving over the Golden Gate bridge late at night two weeks ago, something hit my windshield as I was driving under the south tower. The only car in front of me was Lincoln Town Car several hundred feet up and there was no traffic going in the opposite direction. Also, no pedestrians on the bridge at the time. So either something dropped off the south tower or the car way in front of me kicked up a rock :notsure:

I had a large crack in my windshield. Safelite charged my insurance company $1200 to fix it. I had to pay the $500 deductible. Apparently no vendors have produced these windshields so they have to get them from Toyota and they are crazy expensive.

    that sucks.

I went through 5 of them! on my 2011, the tiniest pebble in the world
could pop up and every friggin time it cracked the windshield.
