 it would stop it if it completely seals off all oxygen from getting to it?

did you get yours back yet?

Nah not yet, dealer said it will likely be 3 months. Most of the wait is getting the new frame/parts in. Once they have it it'll only take a couple days.

Undercoatings don't seal up the frame airtight. I think the issue is that even with an undercoating water/road salt are able to get into the frame and then are unable to drain. Fluid Film at least creates an oily barrier that the water repels from.

Well yeah, the point is that for the frame replacement to still be possible, the frame needed to at least be in good enough condition and steps taken to protect it. So, if you didn't even have Toyota coat and protect the frame at all in the last 15 years, they aren't going to replace the frame for you, and you're SOL.

    Yes, IF...

Remember, the frames rust essentially from the inside out. Can you coat the inside of your frame with this stuff? Probably not.

The only way to do that would be to dip the frame.

i did not get exact deets, but I would think they would spray the inside with the LineX material, but they can't?

that is a scary video! ziebart krap

    is krown treatment similar?

is this the stuff that ToyotaMotorCorp would apply to frames that passed inspections?

    so many questions :(

The frame issue was /never/ a recall. It was an extended warranty. While your link might provide information about other recalls on the truck it will provide no information about frame rust.

No, it's not Line-X type stuff that Toyota applied. It was some type of under coating, probably the same crap they'd try and charge you another $1000 when you're negotiating for a new car.

    This is important.

I've seen more than a few threads over the years of people saying they called Toyota and they said their frame doesn't have any recalls so that must mean their frames are fine.

It's very important that when you call or talk face to face with Toyota, you specify you're asking about the extended warranty on the frame. The monkeys at the reception desk would otherwise just look for "recalls" and tell you you're fine.

Probably used the same crap they have been spraying 2nd gens with, which is to my understanding a special requested formulation of thinned out economy grade Noxudol, which Toyota likes to confusingly call “CRC”. They don’t mean the actual brand named CRC.

What they put on mine, back in 2010 was very similar to paraffin wax (the stuff that comes out of an old time oil well around the pump, not the refined blocks you see), very sticky and a bit oily. Mine still rusted from the inside out. Exterior looked great until I popped my thumb through along the bottom of the frame.

my '04 frame warranty is good through October of this year.

they stopped producing 2004's in July or August I think???
Plus it's 15 years after the truck sold off the lot.
Definitely look into getting a new frame.

new here and looking for my first Tacoma. I live in South Carolina and most all vehicles are rust free here. Should I be concerned if a potential Tacoma has not had the frame replaced if the original looks pretty good and the tapping with a hammer sounds good too? Thank you for your replies.
