You'll need an adapter...the older Gen vs the new Gen changed volts used to charge them.

I know how ya feel....although my situation is different.

I have the ipod2car and have had it for 5 years. It still works with my newest (5th & 6th) gen Classics.... but the click wheel doesn't work very well. I have to unplug the ipod2car, use my clickwheel, & plug it back in again. Something with the old ipod2car unit and the newer ipods....??

3rd gen nano should charge as the charging pins for 12volts and 5 volts are still there. the 4th gen nano removed the 12volt charging pin. you may want to try another 3rd gen nano to be sure its the ipod.

thats why i always recommend the vaistech adapter for the factory stereo. full control and charging and the ability to use the ipod clickwheel or and factory controls.
