I looked at the 4 Runner before I settled on getting a Tacoma because it's the only decent looking SUV IMO, but when I saw that for the same price as a really nice Tacoma it doesn't even come with any of the safety tech, etc I was off of that idea. I know that stuff doesn't matter to many, but I feel like if you're buying a brand new vehicle in 2017 it should come with smart key, BSM and parking sensors. Especially at that price. It's a really nice vehicle but it needs a full update and it would be worth the price IMHO.

I traded my '14 Tacoma for a '16 T4R last month. I needed more space. Love it so far.

No. I went down to Greg Miller in Lemon Grove (San Diego) to pick it up. They were the only ones that gave me invoice price. The rest of the dealers in LA only gave me $500 off MSRP. Screw that.

The powerband in the T4R is on the high-end, just like the new Tacoma. It will go, you just have to put the pedal down. I have a 12 T4R and a 03 T4R with the V8. Both accelerate very good, but the V8 takes off much faster, but the V6 holds its own.

I had a Tacoma, and recently came back to the board to explore the 3rd Gen. When I first read about the new engine, I was pretty excited about it. Based on all the shifting and other issues, I think I am going to buy a used Land Cruiser (13 with low miles) or a Tundra. I really like the Tacoma, but all the issues talked about here have scared me off.

FWIW, updated the shocks on that SR5 4Runner. The stock shocks make the front end sink too much on braking. Gives the 4runner a very boat-like feel.

The only thing that pisses me off about the 4Runner is that other than the 2017's they all have faulty passenger airbags, but they are doing the recall in phases. My 2012 has been recalled, but there is no date on when a remedy will occur.

My FIL just traded his 2013 T4R for a 2011 200 series. It has almost 80k miles, but drove like it was brand new. Super quiet interior, very nice. The price on a new one is insane, but I have seen many 50k mile 2013s for around $45k. Considering the Land Cruiser is designed to operate for 25 years with no major failures, seems like I may own it forever once I get one. I see so many high mile 100 and 200 series out there, you know the quality reputation is not just hype.

I think what we have here is a failure to adapt. Not sayin' they shouldn't have remapped things; just sayin' they did and Rev 1, 500 miles into it, on state routes through the ups and downs of a glaciated environment at 55-65 mph is pretty nice. Go home on the freeway w/cruise control, and while it's better, the only complaint I had going into it was not upshifting reasonably when in cruise after cresting a slope at freeway speeds. Modestly improved. But the way it drives otherwise "improved" a lot. Someone said a while back that it was like ECT without it, and while it's not quite like that, I can see why they said it. Once you adapt, it's pretty nice.
