Another poly bushing question

Last week I made a post about using Energy Suspension bushings in the OME Dakar leaf eyes and started looking around on here about others who have poly bushings in the Dakars.

I saw a thread (can’t remember who posted it, too lazy to find it again) where somebody had replaced the front bushings with poly from Wheelers if I remember correctly. One thing I noticed was that when he pressed the old rubber bushing out he removed the outer metal sleeve with it. I couldn’t really see if he got the rubber out or not and reused the metal sleeve inside the eye.

Is an outer metal sleeve necessary for poly bushings, in this case for the Dakar leafs? I have a feeling if it’s not used the bushing would get cut or herniate out where the leaf doesn’t make a complete circle to form the eye

 

So here is some more info for your research - I sent a message to Wheelers asking about the difference in the ARB bushings that were pressed into my dakars. During the discussion, I asked about the 1st gen 60mm ES bushing since it was mentioned here.

Wheelers suggested this one instead - They said it would fit better on the CS046R pack vs the 1st gen 60mm bushings, so I ordered them today.

As for the outer sleeve, very good question. As I understand it, you do not re-use the metal sleeve from the front hangars. Reference this thread here -

Note: until I saw that thread and received feedback from a few others, I was a bit worried about re-using that front bushing sleeve as well. Not an issue though.
