I went in today for my 20,000 mile service and asked them to take a look at a squeak I get over even the smallest bump. Literally, even a minor crack in the road will cause a squeak. Senior tech rode with me and thought it was dust in the leaf springs, as many on here have been told as well. When he got to the shop, he looked through it and found the spare tire was loose. When I got my truck back, I confirmed they found it to be the spare. going back to work, I hit every bump I could and sure enough, no squeak.

Just wanted to share so anyone who has a squeak can check this as a possible solution.

That’s sounds like too easy of a solution.
It’s got to be more complicated than that

    Cheers!

Could be a ball joint. See if yours is sealed or not. If you have grease zerks, then I would grease them.

Sounds like your Spare tire hanger was not installed properly at the factory and the "appropriate" parts were NOT greased....Of course that greasing is part of the Grease Monkey's job, that does the driveshaft... I think Toyota fired his ass in 2015..(right after they fired the Monkey that fills Trannys and Diffs..)..We have not seen the grease since...

Poor grease Monkey.... I hope they hire him back soon..!! (He is a cousin of the "Trunk Monkey"...):D

I just had the spare down from my truck the other day, I like to put 4 rubber pads where the sidewall touches the frame so it does not distort the tire, plus l had a chance to lube the chain while it was down.

This has been driving me nutzz for about 3months now. It had become worse so that now going over any little bump in the road I hear the squeak. Sounds like brake wear indicators in pitch.

Went out and wiggled the spare. It was tight but made the sound I was hearing. I lowered it all the way down then back up and tightened. Test drive resulted in no more squeak. F-Yeah! I didn't have any rubber pads so I'll have to find something to use. the sidewalls had some indentations in it.

The hanger is riveted to the frame and holds the tire tight side to side but allows some movement front to back ( can press up on the front of the tire or rear and it wiggles.)

    Anyway, problem solved...tighten your spare.
