Before all the “use the search function” comments start....
Yes, I know there is a search function... I tried that.

there is just so much content and contradictory info out there it is dang near impossible to filter out the pertinent stuff.

I am wanting a larger tire than my stock ones because I am planning a small lift before the end of the life of the set.

i currently have a stock SR5 and am thinking about Cooper ST Maxx’s. I have seen mixed reports of what sizes will and will not fit on a stock suspension. My hope is to go with 255/85/16’s as the ST Maxx have good reviews all around, and several people mention this size working. But, others say they don’t.

Can these work for my stock setup, and if so what adjustments, if any, would I have to make?

No, not different just specific to the questions I have. So I don’t have to filter through several dozen threads for the 1 or 2 pertinent posts within them.

What did you actually search for, because I found the answer in half a second...."sr5 255/85/16"

And use Google instead of the TW search function. Try "Tacomaworld 255/85r16 stock"

^^^^This is true! I've had much better luck finding Tacomaworld threads on Google than on it's own search feature.

As far as those tires, it seems like there's always slight variations even with the same year and model. I've heard of tires fitting OK on one truck and rubbing on another.

I would just buy what you want and be ready to make adjustments. Sometimes rubbing can be fixed with alignment, or by removing or adjusting the mud-flaps.

I just installed some Goodyear duratracs 265/75/16 and they rub with the mudflaps that I’ll be taking off now :)

Yes, this works very well indeed.

Keep in mind that if you change your wheels to a different offset later but keep the same tires, you might run into issues.
