    bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....

    Chains are better than cable or rope if they fail in use because they store less energy. And old mattress is better for the top of the chain, it absorbs kinetic energy better and doesn't throw a heavy thing.

    Since I don't usually carry an old mattress around in the truck, or keep one at home (do you? :p), A heavy jacket like my insulated winter Carhartt jacket gets zipped up around the line (or chain in this case) 1/2 way down. Same effect, easier to implement.

    I wonder if OP ever figured out that was a poor method to remove a stump...?
