So for the last 4-5 years, I've had an ant problem. For the most part, I've kept this to myself. It's been my dirty little secret. When passengers were in my truck, the ants would hide themselves well. In fact, they learned to stay out of sight when the truck was on. Only on rare occasions did they make themselves visible. I'd of course smash them on sight if I could. Fast little fuckers they are. Occasionally I'd smash one or two, but it seemed to do very little. I figured they were coming in from the outside--there were ant colonies in the sidewalks near my house, and maybe they left some sort of pheromone trail. Vacuuming and car washes seemed to do nothing. They always reappeared, but I never saw more than 3 or 4 at a time. Of course I made an effort to not leave food in the car, especially candy - they really loved that. I eventually just became used to them. I mean, it could be worse right?

Well, it became worse. Yesterday I did a day at the beach in the Tacoma with the old hag, and on the way back we hit some terrible traffic. As we were stopped dead waiting for about 30 minutes, the old hag suddenly noticed that ants were EVERYWHERE around her feet. I had never seen that many. They were all congregating where some water had spilled under the floor mat earlier in the day. I figure, a day at the beach and being stuck in the traffic made those ants hot and thirsty. One had found a source of moisture and called for the rest of them. The old hag was freaking out and saying they were biting her (they weren't- they don't bite).

Anyways, when I woke up today I decided enough was enough. I got some ant spray, removed the floor mats, and went full napalm on the ants. I killed about 15 of them on the spot, but the others began fleeing. I laughed maniacally as I blasted them. I noticed a lot were in the lower corner of the passenger door, so I napalmed every crevice, nook and cranny I could see. That's when I saw a little flexible rubber cover over the place where the door closes onto. Lifting it up, low and behold, I find there is a collection of dead leaves, wet and gross. After I get a long stick to start plucking it all out, I see the ants. It was their nest. The dead leaves just kept coming and coming, spilling out along with hundreds of ants on the ground. I was able to clear it out entirely onto a pile on the field where I parked. The ants stayed with the pile, which I went back to look at. They were running around wildly, many carrying little egg sacks. Now, I could have done one last atomic spray of ant killer, but I decided to let them live. They no longer have the comfort of being in my Taco, with its never-ending supply of Chick-fil-A crumbs to feed on. Nope. They're on their own now. And, I guess, so am I.

You are nicer than me. I would have decapitated their leader and put his little head on a tiny spike as a warning to the others.

Nice “story”. I think there is perhaps some exaggeration here. You let the ants reside in your truck for 5 years?? Ants nest close to food sources. No food and ants move on. Your truck must have had lots of food, crumbs, food wrappers, crumbs, chunks of food, crumbs and more food in the cab and various and sundry refuse. I’m surprised the “old hag” would ride in such a debris field. I think the best solution would be to detonate a small tactical nuclear device in the cab, problem solved.

For real, I've been seeing the same little damn ants since 2018. Apparently they can survive the cold by becoming inactive. So I wouldn't see them for months at a time. Also, they would come out when I wasn't in the truck, not when I was. They were fast and could hide in a split second. And yes, the entire colony feasted on my crumbs, or when I was parked a long time, they'd go out for food - maybe even one of the local restaurants near my house. I found a little mini Michelin Guide once. I don't exaggerate anything, ever. The old hag prefers not to ride in the festering trash truck, but sometimes she has no choice.

Still sounds to me like the nuclear option is your best bet. And with the nuclear option there’s no clean up afterwards, everything is vaporized. Just get a new truck and hire former Navy Seals to protect and prevent future invasions:nuclear:

This is the stuff that works. Ants carry it back to nest and it kills them all. The stuff works. I've used it numerous times and it works within 2-4 days and ants are all gone.

The Terro ant bait was my go to. At some point something changed. Before I’d stick one near a ant hole, within an hour they’d be feasting. A few days later most are gone. Now if I grab one and shove it in the hole, it’ll be interested. Otherwise they ignore it. It could be a California thing, we’ve been regulated out of getting stuff that works.
