How is a person going to travel to some "beautiful scenery places and enjoy them" when they sometimes don't have the strength to get out of bed, eat, or even shower. Let me ask you a simple question. Where did you go to school to learn this brilliant wisdom? What degrees do you have that vilifies these theories? What do you do for a living? Let me explain to you where I am coming from. I have a double master's in Sociology and clinical Psychology and a PH.D in clinical Psychology. I have a thriving practice working five-six days a week seeing 10-13 patients a day. I work with it everyday. It is real. Unfortunately we have a lot of stigma in this world against people with a "mental illness." It is not like people don't hear "oh.....just be happier," or "just stop thinking about it," or "just snap out of it." And this can be from their family or friends as well. Please do not further the stigma when you believe that you have a simple fix to something that you don't understand. Please stop thinking that you can "cure" something by putting a bandaid on a broken arm.

Your ideas on curing depression isn't that simple. If you want to learn about it read up on it. But don't keep posting bs when you clearly know nothing about it.

Oh , I can’t help myself on this. Yes, you are correct about people not understanding mental health illness at all. Now for the rest ............ Do you suffer from mental health illness yourself?? All the schooling and degrees in the world aren’t worth a freaking thing to ANYONE unless they know how it feels and live it themselves. I’ve met 100’s of dildos that work in mental health that have absolutely no clue about anything other than what they read in college. I’m not trying to attack you personally, but when a person starts talking about their degrees and years in school.............. Well, I usually LMFAO unless they suffer to a degree as well.

Agreed......it is a very fair question and I take no offense to it at all. I myself have struggled in the past with both anxiety and depression as well as true aspects of ADHD. Just because I have those degrees does not make me better than anyone else at all. Whenever I meet with a client, I also never make it about me, it has to be about them and what is going to help them. And yes, I truly have to apologize for a lot of people in my profession who have no idea how to do therapy because there are a lot of douchebags out there. I actually get that question a lot in my practice. What i usually tell people is this:
Whether or not i have struggled with any form of mental illness or possible addiction, this is what i will say.......if you were drowning, and i was in a lifeboat with the ability to throw you a lifevest....do i have to know what it feels like to drown to be able to help you?
I do know what it feels like as well as know what has worked for me. Now what worked for me, may not work for others. I have had different experiences, different people in my life and grew up in a different environment. I just know what can work for people, what doesnt work for people and continue to strive to help people find what can and does work for them, but working on yourself is hard. Recognizing faults and be willing to change and learn from them is extremely difficult. And I continue to help people who have trouble fighting for themselves. Thank you for the question.

Respect for the honest response, seriously. I just had it out with someone on here the other day about mental health laws dealing with firearms etc etc. I was arguing with the typical Google genius about the topic. LOLOLOL The laws passed dealing with mental health over the last 11 years have done more harm than good in more ways than I can explain. I myself got stuck with a representative payee when I was put on disability about 4 years ago. They said I couldn’t manage my own finances because my wife at the time wasn’t helping with bills. I was paying them on time , but she was used as their excuse to gain control of my disability financially. Here we are 4 years later and I’m no longer married and obviously still paying my bills like I always have. My rep payee can’t say no as long as my bills are paid , but it got me caught in the past administrations drag net for gun control............ AKA the governments ever extending “gun grab”.

I like to just jam all my emotions way down deep in a cave locked so tight I can only get them to surface during Disney/Pixar movies. Eventually you figure out how to pretend to show emotions for loved ones around you. Oh boy, when you start to leak, though; better get some flex seal quick, lest that shit blow like a pipe bomb. Seems to be working for me so far.

    .....kinda :bananadead::locked::pray::thumbsup:

I get palpitations as well. Many people have it. I have it from babesia... many DRs wont find the reason why. My babesia is from long term lyme disease, which also many DRs will miss. Its because the tests they use in clinics are not the correct test to use. When you have long term or chronic lyme your body doesnt recognize the culprit and therefore doesnt generate an antibody, which the tests they use in clinics are checking for. Millions of people have it in the US and dont even know it. They wonder why its hard to get out of bed, why they ache, why they have anxiety, palpitations, head aches, nausea etc. etc etc... why they go into the clinics and DRs cant figure out what is wrong, so they give them the anxiety diagnosis. it's a load of shit... CDC is to blame...

That’s awful. Sorry to read that. Thankfully they have drugs now to combat Lyme Disease if it’s caught in time. My friends father has been wheelchair bound since the early 90’s from a tick bite. :/

For me a combo of cutting out alcohol, focusing on physical fitness, always having a project to work on (truck, house, yard, something physical that also has problem solving), weekly EMDR therapy, a low dose SSRI, and intermittent medical cannabis for insomnia have turned me into a new person. I used the shotgun approach.

Dude, you live my life with the exception of EMDR completely screwed me up so I had to go back to CBT and I don’t smoke tree. Instant panic mode when THC kicks in for me.

Yup, many misdiagnosed MS are suffering. Sorry if the ruffles any feathers with those suffering from MS. Blame it on the CDC.
Anyway, 300,000 cases of lyme a year.
Many more than that go undiagnosed. The ones that get undiagnosed are the ones that dont show a rash when bit. (like me) I pulled countless ticks off me in my years of outdoor fishing and hunting. never had a rash... and they said it wasnt in our state. BS... its absolutely everywhere now. Many, many, many people don't know they have it...

Specifically with the medical cannabis I’ve found the 1:1 THC:CBD works for me. The CBD counteracts the psychoactive properties of the THC.

Oof. So many inappropriate jokes about bad aim come to mind. :smack::facepalm:

I'm a member of a veteran organization devoted to preventing the shotgun method. Far too man veterans are resorting to that. Granted, your shotgun method is a little healthier than the literal one that I'm talking about. :1up:

Kurt used that approach, and now everybody loves Nirvana for some reason so maybe he wasn’t wrong.

But all of these things lead to one conclusion that is working for you....... SELF CARE......and not self destruction. Good for you sir, I applaud your resolve to better yourself.

I also cut out alcohol about 5 years ago. The best decision I've ever made. It's been a long time since I've been in the deep dark hole of depression since I cut the liquor out. I also used medical cannabis but I cut that out as well.

Every time I get happy I want to do the big die the next day
    Mania is... interesting, lol.

Anyways, depression is becoming a much different monster than before being chronically ill. I can watch my health decline day by day and some days it makes the depression really rough, but most days I honestly cope with my depression much better than I used to as a child and especially an adolecent. I don't really know why, I think I just know as time goes on I don't know what to expect, so I just ride it out rather than trying to drive life around I guess. I'm more anxious than anything now. I think I handle things pretty well, considering both of my parents have been suicidal my whole life.

Back to the happy mood thing though, the thing that puts me in the best mood is bitching. Maybe it's a chick thing, but I can't help but laugh after a good rant. We all combat things different. If I could simply handcraft a happy mood I'll let y'all know the recipe, but through trial and error, I can tell y'all it's not any antidepressant I've tried, lol. Would be cool to see a psychiatrist but everyone's booked months out, and $80 a visit? THAT'S depressing.
