    Tl;dr

Whatever your path, challenges, you’re not alone as you might think. By nature, we want to solve our issues and have answers to life’s issues. When you don’t feel settled, it’s ok to feel that way, just don’t take it as your broken, you’re not, you’re just a human who is growing, and a part of your current state needs to catch up.

    ——-

For me, it’s been helpful to understand how my past has impacted my thinking and to see that my tendencies were like others who experienced what I have. Definitely didn’t feel as much like a Martian as I previously did as I learn more about myself.

No one’s childhood was perfect as life creates adverse experiences, no matter how great your surrounding conditions are. If you don’t know your ACE score, it’s an interesting place to start if you think you might have had any adverse childhood experience that impacted you, or still does.

I’m not one who likes to be diagnosed as I spent years being told some crazy and clearly wrong stuff. It’s not good for a young psyche to get hit with such lunacy by pros who never asked about what was going on at home and didn’t agree with one another.

I’ve taken a handful of similar but differently worded ACE surveys, I more than not score a 10/10. In my case, I think the test might be missing a few questions. I’ve also been told that by a couple of therapists that I have CPTSD.

Both of these things helped me as I felt I related to what others were experiencing. I still feel like a Martian today, but instead of feeling like a Martian who has to apologize being different, I’m ok being myself.

Thankfully I’m seeing ACES recognized by more than just mental health professionals, but by medical professionals as a way to understand health issues and their impacts on your physical health; which is the intended purpose.

I began having issues with arthritis in my 20s and suffered 25 years with debilitating pain in my neck that was finally resolved with a neck surgery. It was like night and day and the mental lift I felt was immense. At the same time I began practicing IFS, addressing some rough internal stuff that I couldn’t think my way through.

I’m currently a handful more surgeries out; both Achilles tendons reconstructed in 2023, currently pushing for knee replacement, but a hip sounds like it’s competing to be next; the heaviness has been setting in again with my limitations and seeing the potential for several years of continuing physical issues that has sidelined me from what I love to do the most.

I’m trying to shift myself gracefully into doing things I love that don’t require so much physically, but it’s hard.

I know people will say get over it, move on, look at the bright side, but it’s ok if those things don’t feel right, because they don’t address what’s going, and we all know burying it doesn’t help.

Oof it's been a rough week/months. The struggle is real. It's like walking on thin ice daily. Trying to stay positive but I'm losing that battle.

Struggles in the mind. Bipolar 2 with server anxiety. I've struggled with it since I was 15. 39 now. It's a battle I wouldn't put on my worst enemy.

I’m sorry you’re going through this. It’s been a battle for me as well so I understand the struggle. Keep pressing forward and don’t let the enemy within win. I’m only a PM away if you need to reach out to an understanding ear. I have severe recurrent depression.

Sorry to hear about your struggle sir. Sometimes its one day at a time, sometimes its one cycle at a time. Hopefully you are not struggling alone and you have some providers to help you stabilize. There are some newer medications that can subdue to highs and help control the lows from getting to low. Daily routine and stability in that routine is key and a very good therapist can help teach the challenging aspects of emotion management. If you ever feel you need to reach out please do so.....and please do not hesitate to .

I feel the same. I've chosen to back away from the internet as it's difficult to find a good thread that's not filled with tension or subtle negativity (or even outright hostility). I'm of the opinion that emotions build easily and dissipate slowly. When your week is filled with teeny-tiny bad vibes, they're too small to notice but their cumulative accrual can overwhelm a guy.

I've instead filled my time with easy-win to dos: Find a 20 minute cleaning project, go for a walk, go for a drive, pick up the phone and chat with a friend the old fashioned way, ask a coworker about their day, initiate a new habit, challenge the spouse to a funny board game.

Basically, forced-induction positivity. Control what I can control in life, ignore the uncertain, tell myself that I've always been able to adapt and survive when the past uncertains became certains. I have to do it daily, but it makes me sleep better.

But yeah, you are definitely not alone. A lot of people are in a daze. A lot of people are confused. They're withdrawn, guarded, suspicious, and quick to assume. And it's contagious. I see it in myself and I see it in a lot of peoples eyes. You aren't alone bud.

I have not seen you post much Rock, you've got great alternatives to stay occupied outside of the internet.

Surprisingly, I have not seen very much negativity in threads here...but I guess, my thread selection is different from everyone else.

Yeah, people don't like Grill Lights but it's not a contentious subject worth getting upset about.

TW repliers do insert their best opinions and I take with a grain of salt...at the end of the day, it's my decision to do as I choose.

I'm fortunate to work in a good environment; I may have differences with the two gentlemen I work with but we always turn to humor during the workday.

Wishing you well as always my friend.

Thank you sir. :hattip: wishing you well as well.

TW in general is a friendly place. Many other sites aren't so much. :cookiemonster:

My new employment has me in a unique position. They pay me to basically do whatever it is I want to do. From a guy who has been under the heavy thumb of extreme micromanagement for the better part of a decade, that's wild. I'm the formally caged tiger that's staring at wide open jungle for the first time while thinking, "what the hell is this?" It's a lot of freedom to be able to completely define my job as I please, but also I'm fully aware that freedom expects results. I'm getting there. It's a long road of learning a new industry, but I'm succeeding. That's where I've been putting a lot of energy into lately.

The funny bit is that all of the horrid hostility at my previous place has taught me some insightful people management skills for this current one. I'll be grateful for that at least. :cookiemonster:

Good seeing you around, I sometimes catch your upbeat comments here and there.

    Good morning Rock,

Agree...TW is an awesome place...I hang out here quite a bit and made some friends.

As for your job...sounds like most of your working life you were in an environment with high expectations to work within your limits based on Company/Immediate Supervisor rules.

Now that you are the face of the company, that is a hard transition.

Set your Goals/Expectations and focus your energy on that instead of thinking about all the power you have.

I know you know this...but it's always good to reinforce the positive.

Thanks for your kind words...I try to be upbeat but it can be challenging at times.

BTW, I have 3 Forums I'm an active member...but this one is my current go to since I have a "Skewp'd" Tacoma and making it my own with MODs.

    See you around!
