I don't even get 20 with 265s and I typically go the speed limit and shift at 2500rpm...:ballchain:

Back in my day I got 25mpg on 40s, shifting at redline, going uphill both ways.

Used to get 25+ with 265s. But then it dropped off when I armoured up and then finally I geared the truck and it came back up. I can't speak as to why you guys can't get out of the teens with little tires but I will rarely exceed 70mph I shift around 25-2700 depends on the road. Lugging the truck up an incline won't be beneficial. I spend a lot of time in 5th gear as well. I generally fuel half as much as my buddies v6 rigs when we're on trips. Its down a bit at the moment cause I got lazy and left my tent on the truck but not a whole lot

Just noticed that you're in BC. 1 imperial gallon = 1.2 us gallons. So, 20 Canadian mpg = 16.6 US mpg.

That figure was adjusted for the gears, tire size, and US measurements

Oh, well in that case I defer to my previous stance that it's bullshit.

Done did it. Your math's a little fuzzy bud, but as long as you're stoked on your truck, it's all good.

My truck is mostly stock. Mild lift when I added trd OR suspension, maybe an inch or less I don't even know. Its a base reg cab with 265 KO2s. I commute with it, mostly highway, and hunt out of it. Never broke 20 in its life, even with 100% highway trips where I drove specifically to try to get the most out of it.

I am dumbfounded how a little truck with a 4 cyl 5 speed can't break 20 mpg but a big 5,000lb V8 full size is over 20 mpg in most brands but the tundra.

To get over 20 in our trucks you practically need the little 2wd truck with mini Cooper tires, a 100lb driver and downhill or flat the entire way.

I have gotten close to 20. High 19s. And that's using the classic calculation of gallons added compared to miles driven. I'm typically around 300 miles to the tank when the light comes on. Sometimes 270 miles, sometimes 330 miles depending on if I hunt or not.

There are so many variables that come into play that trying to compare your mileage to someone else’s is almost silly. Altitude, topography, gear set, armor, driving styles, tires, and, and, and...

However, I certainly believe that very good mileage is attainable with these trucks, even built. I certainly won’t be on here discrediting someone’s claims.

I’m a little bit of an outlier(1st gen 3rz), but you get the idea. Heavy truck - camper, bumper, sliders, full skids, 33” KM2s. Drove about 40 miles home last night at 45-50 mph in 4th gear the whole way. Avg mpg for the trip was 24.8 according to my scangauge.

How accurate is the scangauge? Idk, but it was calibrated for my tire size using two different GPS units simultaneously, so I’d say it’s pretty close.

    Here’s to 4 bangers.

    ***disclaimer***
As good as it does on the hwy, it’s really sucks putting around town. 10-14 is commonly seen on the instant mpg scangauge function.

Absolutely. There comes a point though where optimal conditions are met and you just can't exceed your efficiency.

I'm only at 140 ft above sea level, and my commute is entirely flat. Can I make improvements? Sure. I just don't see them adding 5 mpg, maybe a half or even a full mpg in optimal conditions.

I retract my statement where I haven't gone above 20 mpg. I have. But only very slightly. I think a fluke trip put me at 21 mpg and I've never seen it again. It's possible I didn't reset my trip meter immediately or topped off the tank, which I don't normally do once the pump stops.

25mpg? I'd have to see it to believe it especially on a modified truck. Not saying youre a liar, I just need some more proof or some more people saying the same thing about our 2.7l 5spds. I know I'll never see that kind of mileage.

Actually about to make about a ten mile drive. Pretty flat. I’ll snap a pic of the SG. We will see how it turns out.

So here are the results from my drive home. Quick figuring puts the trip at just over 16 miles. Stopped at two intersections. The rest of the time was spend at roughly 35 mph in 3rd or 55 mph in 4th gear.

Pic was taken as I was pulling up my driveway. Instantaneous mpg in the upper right. Average mpg for the trip bottom right.
