    .. if I may..

What's the big deal on the "damage multiplier?" It's thin wall steel, if not aluminum, right? I could be missing something altogether, but it can't create too much more damage on it's own, and if it does, my $500 deductible doesn't care about an extra $1000 my insurance company has to pay.

Am I totally off base in thinking if the front end gets that much impact to begin with that having a bull bar up front isn't going to make too much of a difference? I know TW hates them because they serve little function outside of light mounting or aesthetics, but nobody speaks down to a dude who puts sliders on his Prerunner to help with the apparently widespread attack of other drivers who ninja kick their doors open just for the sake of fucking up your Inferno paint job, or that as soon as you drive the truck off of the lot a tailgate thief gets a text message with your address.

Seems like all issues are valid, and all are hugely overblown.

Please tell me if I'm wrong.

Updated to add the immensely popular fear of tailgate snatching.

I believe it's because at a low speed impact there will be damage either way but with a "bull bar" of this design it's concentrated in specific spots on the OE number as well as these act as a lever and actually increase the damage. Irregardless, an OE number with nothing or "bullbar" of this design isn't going to do shit when you hit a deer at 65mph.

do what i do turn it upside down drill a big hole in it fill it half way with water and the other half with Portland cement,Then mount it, I did the same thing with the trailer hitch bar. Back in the day going to high school in Michigan we would remove front and back bumpers and weld on lally columns and go mail box and fence hunting . Oh the memories

Couple things on the ball bar, I think it makes the Tacoma look a little better. I use it to mount lights,to push open gates that I don't want to get out and open on my property.
( which keeps my bumper from getting scratched )

Now as far as front in damage goes. If you drive around texting your buddies, surfing the Internet, playing with the radio, talking on the phone or anything else like this at 65 mph and rear end someone yes it would do a lot more damage.

However, my Tacoma has over 11,000 miles I have driven nearly 450,000 miles in the last 10 years with zero accidents. So this is not as much of an issue with me as it is with a lot of the poor drivers on the forum who go around running into stuff all the time.
