What exactly is a computer science engineering degree? Is that like advanced desktop troubleshooting?

Later in life, you will probably have better retirement pay & bennies than most degreed engineers in the private sector ...

You can win twice though (i.e. engineering degree & USCG) by getting a degree while you do your 20+ in the USCG ... :D

Mostly its an excuse to get certifications paid within one program. CCNP, CCVP, A+, N+, Sec+ CISSP, CISM, etc.

But it deals with entire networks, security, implementation, planning, etc. I specialized in digital forensics, mostly cuz I thought Abby Sciuto was HAWT. LOL

Been considering going back to school for a dual MBA/Master in Industrial and System Engineering. Not completely sold on it yet though. Where'd you get your degree and what are you doing now if you don't mind me asking?

Ah - I'm currently working on my Networking an Communications Management so I was just curious. I've seen the title thrown around and was never really sure what it covered. I know most of the "computer science" people I have worked around were lost once the problem left the NIC. So I figured most "computer science" stuff was around the same level.

Mechanical Engineer here. Work in Defense. The key for any Mechanical Engineers is do your best to get out from the design role. The money and power is in management. Good luck

junior/senior ME student. have worked for borgwarner turbo as a co-op thought. I've designed a prototype turbo based on existing production turbos but still had to make new parts as well. Also working on getting some tests together for prototype parts. Fun job, learned you don't use all the stuff your taught (or suppose to be taught) in school as much as you'd think.

    BSME checking in ;)

i'd recommend looking for a school that has a co-op program... i went to a engineering school w/ a 5yr program, w/ mandatory co-op.. the co-op was good because i got realistic experience (i.e. beyond chalkboard derivations of calculus and physics theorums ;)), plus i was able to pay-off my tution as i went!

BS Architectural Engineering - Building Power Systems. Its a mix of Arch, mechanical/plumbing/structural/civil/construction management with more emphasis in electrical all rolled into one... It basically makes you ready for designing buildings and construction.

I did an internship with a construction company after my freshman year, got into the day to day deals on the general contractors side in the job trailer. The next year I did electrical design for for a MEP firm. If think you know what you want to get into after graduation, look at internships in that field or in supporting jobs. If all else fails, just pick up any kind of engineering internship. Real world experience is important, even it is not in your direct line of work.

Now I do the electrical plans for contractors to build attractions at theme parks, so worked on some cool jobs. Passed the EE PE this spring so glad thats done. Never would have thought I would have been doing all this 8 years ago but its been fun.

I'm a second year ME with a minor in business. I may make the minor into a major, primarily because I would like to run an engineering company one day down the road, but we'll see. That's a shit ton of work that I'm not sure I could pull off lol

I went to the career fair they had and talked to all the companies and handed out resumes, but didn't get contacted at all. So I went through our cooperative education office instead. Unlike an internship you work 3 semesters (2 school and 1 summer) instead of just 1 summer like for internship usually. Usually a little easier to get a co-op over internship i think
