    Follow up...

It rained today and traction was good. Came to a stop, accelerated to 65mph and at no point did I feel the tires sleep.

As a comparison, on a 16’ F150ecoboost my E rated duratrac would slip on wet pavement under quick acceleration

The real test for these X-ATs will be road snow, updates to follow

Another update... last week I went out to play in the mud with the purpose to try these tires out. They did well in muddy situations (3-10” of mud). Entire time I was in 2 high, when I hit the 10” deep section I had to give the truck some throttle so the tires would spin and clear out but other than that they were great!

However, I won’t be able to provide any additional updates because as of recent, I trade in my 20’ Tacoma for a 21’ F150 ecoboost to better tow the trailers I’ll be buying. Trade in values are so good right now that I got about $1800 more than I bought the Tacoma new for in late 2020. Made it a no brainer. Thanks to all at Tacomaworld that have helped answer my questions and provide helpful insight!

Out with the not so old OEM Wrangler Adventures 265/70/16, only 10k miles, couple of wheeling trips but with more to come they did not inspire confidence and thank them for getting me this far.

In with the new Yokohama X-AT 265/75/16

I have them for a few weeks before we go to the W. Texas desert and mountains for some fun. Will let you know how it goes before during and after.

Initial impression is the Yokos do look great and make the OEM look like sedan tires in comparison but this is about far more than looks, I wanted major durability and traction for offroad trips.

Talked to Yokohama customer service and after a quick research on their part they recommended inflation to 36PSi for the Taco. We'll start there and adjust as necessary, just need miles now.

Great tires. Performance in wet is ok. Happy with my set.

So I took them out for a first drive today on a variety of pavement. Admittedly brand new but much more quiet than expected. A Tesla S came along side at one point and their tires were noisier than mine and my windows were up and the A/C on. (!) Nothing weird or out of the ordinary on some freeway rain grooves on dry pavement. Made a couple of sharp turns and no howl or slide. I do think I want to drop pressure from the ~36 to maybe ~32-30 and see how the ride is like that. I can tell they are a little more stiff than the OEM Wranglers but it's not a deal killer by any stretch of the imagination. Initial impression is with these anyone complaining about how awful the ride is on E load vs C load must have very sensitive bottoms and that's before dropping any air pressure. Started ~36psi and the Taco gauges showed I got up to 38-39 after they were fully warmed up. I think I have plenty of leeway to drop the tire pressure and do more testing. Very pleased. May do a chalk test at some point too.
