If it is the one o was looking at recently, a majority of the reviews were pretty good, but there were some bad ones too. Last time I went home there was one laying in a box at my parents house. My mom was going to send it out to me with a couple of my dad's books. If I ever get it I will let you know how it is. If you take the plunge first tell me so I know whether i should install it or not.

Apeman seems to make ok cameras, but I have never used any of them. My main issue with them is they are one of the chinese companies that advertises cameras featuring 4k 20MP but its not true 4k and not a 20 mp sensor. The way this is "legal" is because yea the videos might be 4k in resolution, and the pics might be 20 megapixels, but they aren't using sensors that are native to those resolutions. They are advertising this model as 12 MP yet it uses a sony starvis image sensor which is only about 2 MP. so you can't expect anything better than 1080p with is 2MP.

That being said, sony starvis image sensors are pretty good, and for $50 that doesn't seem too bad. theres some cams around the same price like the B1W or Yi Mini that have wifi too, but not as good hardware. I can't say for sure I would recommend it since I haven't used it but dashcams under $100 can often be a gamble.

i use a Rexing camera. It works good enough for me to document and makes for some interesting videos. I like how it tracks date, time, and MPH. I got it on Amazon.

I would have holes in my dash from punching it if I had to deal with stuff like that every day. Good idea to have a dash cam!

Eh, it does "good enough." Picture captures most but not all license plates, and is decent in most lighting conditions. (On my computer the plate for oncoming jeep is just barely readable in the below pic.) Plus it's small and out of the way, and easily moddable to fit in the GoPro mount.

I got mine for 40 bucks, it was a last minute one-day delivery purchase before hauling my camper on a 6000 mile cross country trip. (Figured it would be cheap insurance to settle at-fault disputes)

Downside: menu system isn't bad but it isn't great. Standby battery sucks at 20 minutes. If you have motion detection turned on for parking mode, you should probably wire it to an always-on source. Oh, and while write-protecting a file if it senses a collision is great, it will write-protect whatever's recording if you close the door a little too hard. Every few months you need to format the card because of that. Oh, other downside, it sits further away from the glass than the wedge shaped cameras, so it will pick up reflections from whatever is sitting on the dash, like my lawn-mowin' hat, for example.

Other than that, it's been a decent unit.

yah, it's crazy what drivers will do... mine is tough at night in dark areas, but so long as i can read the license plate and call 911, it's enough... this was on Saturday night on my way home... caught up to the guy and asked him if he was drunk and slurring, he admitted he was... i pinned him initially while calling the local police, but i had my teen daughter in the passenger seat and when he started reaching under his seat, i opted to take off after giving the dispatcher the license plate and our location... the police department now has the video and the license plate for follow up...

Hero move, I love it man. Good idea to scram when he reached - child or not I'd leave the scene too.
