My wife had the truck the other night. On the way home she stops to put gas in it bc the light was on and we live out there a little. The gas station is out of every gas except premium and they're getting low on that. My wife puts $20.00 in it. She gets down the road a little ways and it starts sputtering and dies. She calls me. I get there and try to start it up to see what it does. After several attempts I get it to where it stays running. I was able to get it home. The next day I start it up and its running horrible. It wants to start and die like the night before. Once I do get it to stay running it runs rough as hell and if I try to even give it gas it dies. My Check Engine light is on (I have a scanner on the way) Im just looking for a little insight from people who may have experienced something like this. I know getting the code is obvious. I just cant get it til my scanner gets here. Thanks yall

Only help would be the code. Putting in premium wouldn't put it in such a state.

Possibly diesel in the tank, I see it often at my dealer.

I usually pop a fuel line off and smell and feel the fuel.

Diesel smells weaker and feels "greasy" to the touch. It also doesn't burn the same as regular gasoline.

Usually inspecting a spark plug with a diesel fill the spark plugs are soaking wet with fuel.

The solution is purge the tank, fill up with gas, replace spark plugs.

(my assumption, usually diesel fills make it to the customers home ok, then barely run or have to be towed to a shop)

I know it could be one of a thousand things. I was just curious about bad gas or water in the fuel. Its crazy it literally happened right after she put that little bit of gas in it.

You said the light was on even before filling up or are you referring to the gas light?

Alright gotcha. So fuel was low, filled up some, then goes into a kind of limp mode afterwards with a CEL. Interesting.

You mentioned: "The gas station is out of every gas except premium and they're getting low on that."

What are the chances they've got some water in their tank?

highly suspect bad gas, no pun intended...years ago I ran into the same problem. was running out of gas and had to stop in this podunk town and fill up, it was the crappiest gas I ever had. Car was running bad, smoking, sputtering but still driveable. I had no choice but to run it till the next gas station and filled up with premium and eventually ran that garbage gas out...

Ive had a feeling this whole time about the bad gas....just to damn sudden. And we've had some pretty bad flooding this past few days with all this rain

Did they actually tell her they were low on gas? Unless they regularly run low or out the bottom of the tank isn’t good stuff. I’d contact the gas station about it. Must be more who would had issues and also contacted this station, if they are good they will do something for you maybe.
And with flooding recently being low on gas and adding watered down gas yea I think you’d see it right off.

None of these codes are related to bad gas though. Was your truck in deep water at any time?

It could be just one of those strange things that happen.

Nothing to do with filling up .

I would have to research those codes more

My FSM for 2000 does not even list those quite possible bad gas just might cause them but the air temp circuit high makes no sense
