200K miles here on my '03 2.7L and just got done replacing the cylinder head. Burned exhaust valves on cylinders 3 & 4 plus cracks in the combustion chambers. I bought it with 136K miles on the odometer and put over 60K on it before this happened.

Disappointing, but it got me home, back to to work, and to the garage under its own power so I can't hate it.

I'll be checking the valve clearances at 60K mile intervals from now on. Never had a DOHC engine before, where valve clearances tighten with wear rather than loosening and giving an audible tick sound as warning.

227,000 on my 2001 Tacoma, it is a TRD, SR5 access cab 2.7l 5 speed. Never an issue with this engine or truck for that matter, I bought it new so I know how it has been taken of. Engine has never been into and have just put the first set of belts on it after 13 years if you can believe it, but it has not been abused either. I run Mobile One 10/30 oil and Mobile One filters and Marvel Mystery Oil in the oil at times and in the gas just to help keep the insides clean.

I like hearing what different people add to their engines to try and make them last longer. Always wondered about the Mystery oil, alot of old timers around here use it. I use Lucas oil additive about every other change. Mine had 170K when I bought it. An old man had it and drove to his hunting spot and the coffee shop. I've had it 3 yrs. now and shows 217K, I use it on the farm but try not to abuse it, It is my daily driver to work about 40 miles round trip.

I got bored the other day so I decided to give the ol taco a compression test. This truck is knocking on the 300k mark, and looking at it it did not have a friendly life while on the farm it came from. Any who I was pretty surprised to see she had 145-150 psi across all the cylinders. This is at almost 5000' elevation and is the highest comp of anything I've personally checked and I've had some pretty modified vehicles in my day. Surprised me so thought I'd share what I found.

My 97 Tacoma has 294000 been a great truck gets driven hard as I live 12 miles from the nearest paved road. Truck is stock and at about 240000 I started having to replace a lot of random parts but the engine and transmission have not needed anything still does not burn or leak any oil.

My 95.5 2.7 4x4 5-speed is coming up on 176,000 and as far as I know it has only had a new rad and oil changes. Needs a new header and muffler though, stupid cracked manifold.

Replaced worn parts Ball joints,Rotors, brakes, spark plugs,
I have a Manual 1998 Tacoma 2.4l that just turned 350,000 miles two days ago, right after my left lower ball joint popped off ,fixed it,two days later my right side happened right outside the part store, not bad for an 18 old truck that hauled a lot of Glulam and paralam beams and lumber on my lumber rack, trash dump runs etc,it took 350,000 miles. And thousands of pounds to wear it off, Changed the clutch for the first time at 330,000 miles, constantly change the engine oil and oil filter about every 2-3 weeks or before more or less than 1,000 miles I do a lot of driving up and down the coast every day,This truck has had good maintenance witch is an overall reason Why it still runs good, starts right up,BTW still needs a little TLC but over all pretty Reliable/Dependable, I have at least another 100,000 miles or more out of it before I can expect somthin else.

I just acquired my "new" Taco. It has 248,000. 2.7 auto, 5-lug. It was a work truck for one of the installers for my dad's company. It feels like it misfires a bit when I put it in Drive and begin to accelerate under very light throttle. I will pull codes and compression test it this weekend.

Did you get any service records or other documentation with it? by 248k it should have received a bunch of services and replacement parts as part of normal maintenance.

I love threads like this. In a couple ears, I hope I am still happy with my 4cyl. Too early to tell yet, but I do log a bunch of miles on the little beast.

Believe what you want but my Tacoma still running with original spark plugs. Never done the brakes, transmission fluid, nothing... oil changes, air filters & gasoline. Well windshield wiper fluid.
    That's my F-Ing Beast..

IMG_0772.jpg I'm at 287,000 on my 08 5 lug. Drive shaft u joint, front crankshaft seal, right front hub. That's all!
    Hub @220000
    U joint & seal @ 250000

Everything holds together very well, there is a little shake on the highway, tie rods, etc (upper and lower ball joints are good, just checked them) will probably be replaced by 300,000.

In the near future I'm expecting (based on experience) water pump, thermostatIMG_0771.jpg , and alternator to need replacement. But all in all you can't buy a better truck.

Oh btw I just changed by original spark plugs tonight, I took the pic of miles tonight also.

There are videos on YouTube of tacomas with 700k, 900k, crazy stuff but it's doable if you don't abuse it too bad
