I'm visiting from FL and now headed to wine country and Redwoods from San Fran. Any info from locals would be appreciated.

There are several wine areas in the area. Santa Cruz, Livermore, and Sonoma county. Which redwood are you thinking of? Redwood National Park is up near Eureka. There's also Muir Woods, Yosemite, and Sequoia and Kings Canyon.

Looks like we are headed up to Eureka. Don't want to go inland at Sonoma because of heat.

Then take the coast highway. Maybe take 101 north to 128 then over to the coast and up to Legget before heading back inland and Eureka.

This will give you a great view of some of the redwoods plus take you past some coastal history and the more rugged north coast.

If your heading north up the 101 from San Francisco there is a great forest service road you can take. We had to use this route when the 101 was closed due to mud slide.
You take Bell Spring Rd off the 101 to Aldersprings Rd then you drop down to Garberville. It's 36 miles with really great scenery. The road is good but single lane in places. Goes along the mountain ridges.
One of the best parts of our holiday.

Be sure to try and hit up Muir Woods, if you have time. GO EARLY and miss the damn tour buses that will make the trip painful. Same applied to Sonoma / Napa with the heat (which temps will be dropping this weekend a bit).

This is awesome because I live in SoCal and am currently headed up the 5 to NorCal today for an 8 day trip. Starting in Caribou Wilderness tonight then Lassen and Manzanita, up to McArthur Burney Falls, then upto Mt. Shasta. Down through Castle Crag and Shasta Lake through the Shasta National Forest and Trinity Alps over to Redwood SP/NP for 2 night. Then down through Eureka and Napa Valley to Muir Woods for a night. Ill be in San Francisco next Friday then go down to Big Basin Redwood before heading home. 8 days 7 nights. Awesome to see other TW guys exploring the area too

Big Basin is pretty cool. Hwy 9 to 236 is a motorcycle paradise and scenic-be sure to stop at Saratoga Gap overlook (parking lot with vault toilets in 9) and check out the view. 236 is pretty narrow and twisty to the park.

Finally arrived at our camp site in Eureka what a trip is been so far. Unfortunately I'm not in my Tacoma so we have to stick to hard roads in the RV. We're headed to Crater lake in the morning.
