I have not owned ond but I nearly did till I watch my one buddies issues with his gladiator. All of these items were handled by warranty but all popped up within the first 20k I believe. Alternator died on a wheeling trip. No excess water to blame it on just died randomly. 4wd control module died in the middle of a winter wheeling trip. Added 4 hours of winching to get the thing out. Steering bar fell off on the highway nearly causing multiple major accidents. Lastly lifter issues passenger side valve train was completely replaced. Don't believe the replaced the entire head.
As noted earlier the allure of 35's or even 37's on solid axles with little to no mods was appealing and had me looking at them. But from what I had seen multiple friends go through with their jeep products, I decided I wanted to get home at the end if the day and kept the tacoma

Just for one person so i guess that matters. Chair, small grill, Meat and drinks in the cooler (6 pack of beer, water and a few sodas). maybe some would be miserable with this little but its fine for me

I have a 2019 JL Sahara. I love it. It’s my daily driver. Then again I’m used to driving fire trucks which are not exactly known for their ride. I bought my 21 TRD OR new in November of 2020 and just crossed over 11K miles on it. Love both, but the Jeep is the vehicle I count on when responding to calls.

Is it possible for you to get a used Jeep to scratch the itch while at the sametime keeping the Tacoma? Older Jeeps (CJ,YJ,TJ) can usually be found on marketplace for well under 10K and some in pretty good shape.

I've owned 2 Wranglers over the years. If I were a smarter man I'd have only owned 1 and if I were really smart I'd have owned none. :D

only reason to buy a jeep is if your getting the factory 100 to 1 geared rubicon. Best off road factory rig you can buy.

I’ve been dreaming of TDI (ALH) swapping a YJ lately. Simple engine and simpler suspension. Manual everything on top of it. Pretty dumb in my circumstances but fun to dream.

I never owned one but got to drive a '17 for a few days and a '22 for a few weeks. They were interesting but I'm not sure I could live with the noise. The '22 was much quieter but it was still noisy compared to my truck. I got to take the '22 on a mild trail and it was fun. Not so much fun on the highway. Also, I hated the mirrors.

I'm not a fan of the noise either. My biggest thing is I keep thinking this is the last chance to get a good off road buggy. It sounds like they're trying to force people into their 4 turbo for 2025. They took the V6 auto option away on the order sheets. It's pretty clear to see how all the car manufacturers are going. Overly complicated crap that no one can fix and isn't going to last. At least I got my Tacoma when I did. I hate direct injection but...

Have you considered renting one to try out? Even if your local Enterprise, etc doesn't have them, there is Turo. I wish I would have done this before I bought my 3G (turns out I got exactly what I wanted and..hated it).

I'm in the "they stopped making Jeeps in 2006 lol!" club, but, I did love my 2006. I did not love how thirsty it was, so I did what was logical: sold it and got a fast car that got the same MPG (what I'd do to be able to make those decisions with a straight face again). I'd have one for a second vehicle though, we rented one in Hawaii, was fun but definitely not super roomy or refined. Was pretty impressive off road, we even got to add a new trail to their list of places you aren't allowed to go. :D

Ok, welllll, it took 3 of them to get us through 10 days; rental company tech said Jeeps are the bane of his existence, but also his job security..and also to not shut it off anywhere we don't have signal..but being a rental Jeep in Hawaii has got to be pretty rough.

I almost got a new TJ rubi in 2004, but I decided I wanted a V8 and more room. So I bought a grand Cherokee. That has to be one of my dumbest moves ever. Still have the Cherokee just turned 100k on it and it's worthless, and TJ's in good shape are selling for what they were new.

This is exactly the challenge with Jeeps in my opinion. Leave it stock, and it’ll probably be fine, but who does that?

They are just so easy to modify with lift and tire upgrades that it can be hard to leave it un-bastardized.

I have a bre bones stock 2017 JKU. I have a love hate relationship with it. Hated it before I did "jeep" things with it. Use it off road and on the sand and they really have no equal. Fun but not practical vehicle. My wife puts about 25 miles a week on it and I drag it around behind my motorhome. I see it more as a tool/toy than anything else.

If I could snap my fingers and make it appear I would have a toyota tacoma gladiator rubicon with two lockers, 100:1 gearing in 4lo, aisin manual transmission, all welded solid metal non removable top and metal bed made with all toyota engineered and designed parts inside and out but same internal and external specs and demensions as the jeep gladiator rubicon.

I had gone back and forth between a Gladi Rubicon diesel or a Taco. I really wanted the diesel power and fuel economy, but ultimately the reliability of the Taco won me over. Now every time I come across someone with a Gladi I ask them how they like it and if they've had the issues that apparently haunt new Jeeps, almost all of them say they love everything except the fuel economy of the gasser and the ride of solid axles, and that they have had no issues outside the normal for any vehicle.

That said, I still think the Taco was the better choice for a daily. For a while I was wondering if I should trade the Taco for a Gladi, but now that I've regeared I'm far more happy with it.

The other day I saw a dash full of ducks… in a Chevy Traverse. It was the first sighting of that whole culture becoming normalized and no longer special. Felt so good.

I'm with you there, a Toyota version of an off road jeep.

I've been asking people I see too and everyone says they love em.

I swear if I had a Jeep and I cane out to find a duck on the hood I'd run it over and leave it in the parking spot.
