The title is misleading on the other thread haha, lot of tech talk in there too. Try some of the regional threads and ask around in there too.
Or start you own "socal MT bike thread"!

Your whips are pretty sick man! We have more crops country stuff here in NY. But I'd love to start ripping some downhill!

thanks dude! yea, i used to ride all mountain. but as soon as i got more aggressive on the downhill sections i thought to myself 'why am i riding UP hills?'... sold my all mountain bikes and got into fast paced downhill shredding...

its a good feeling to see a rock coming up (larger size) and not having to suddenly change direction or worry... just plow over that shit. lol. :D

No doubt! Just not much for downhill around here and peddling keeps me in shape for skiing haha.
I Demo'd the Enduro 650b expert carbon today. Sick bike! So light. Insane pedal response. I'm trying to figure out what to buy for next year. I want something I can hit some downhill with and still be able to climb too

if you want the ultimate work out..... just pedal the 40lb downhill bikes uphill with only 8-10 speed. hahaha. thats actually what i use my Norco for (weighs in at 45lbs) use it for leg training and conditioning. then when i go riding i pull out the 37lb Glory and it feels so snappy!

I know haha but then I'll be riding by myself when I'm with my buddies. I just started a few years ago so I'm not dropping 20 footers or anything... Yet! Haha

yea i hear ya. actually miss my giant trance for the all mountain and cardio/uphill with the massive amount of gears. my problem was when i got to some of the rocky/tech sections on our local trails, during the decents, my pedals would always clip. sent me over the bars once pretty good, i got lucky i walked away. went clear over a rock garden and miss a tree by about a foot, i had a lot of speed too. lol

sold the all mountain bike after that, when i realized i prefer the longer travel and more ground clearance.

Yeah and there are some sections we ride where you need that "charter" ring haha
    Super technical and steep.
Maybe someday I'll pick up two bikes!
Yeah I hit a drop pretty fast last year and landed in some really soft sand "snap goes the collar bone"! Haha of course the bike landed in the soft sand I i in the hard ground...
I have no doubt that if I was on a DH bike I would have ridden away

Not many true DH trails around our area. Probably Telonics and some other illegal trails. saw your action shot SkimSTI on the Post your bike thread. guessing silver surfer or PG? I like the thought of DH but I only been riding about 1.5 years. so not there yet. I have a 2009 reign x and love it. 6.7in rear travel and 160mm fork. I would like a DH bike but then I would struggle on all the climbs. was thinking a nice compromise would be an Intense Uzzi.

This is one of the first pics I took of my new Tacoma. It's almost like it was made to fit my Trek Superfly 29er in the bed.

Sometimes I like to pedal my Demo uphill. No wait nevermind, I hate pedaling.

hey whats up man. its true there arent a lot of DH specific trails. the picture was from oakley (steeps drop) its kind of a hidden trail in the edison park.

but... my buddies all ride DH only specific. including telonics/silversurfer shuttles. but we also cruise down to the other aliso woods trails like fiveoaks/car wreck/lynx. we get made fun of quite frequently at those trails cuz all the regular mountain bikers pedalling by as we walk up the hills to get to our trails. funny thing is, once we are at the top, we BLAST down. haha.

you just need the right group of guys to do it. we mainly do shuttle runs, but like i said we will venture and ride/hike. its all part of the fun. everyone in our group walks together so its not like you would be left behind (or made fun of).

my thought is this: i love riding. but even when i was riding my all mountains, i HATED the climbs. would still do it with the low gears or walk half the time anyway, but the problem is the lesser travel suspension and clearances limited me on how fast i can go down and ultimately how confident i felt in the tech/rocky sections... so i said eff it. sold the AM, bought my first DH. sure it was a struggle going up. but man, going down hills with more speed and confidence is a rush. thats what hooked me.

SJT shuttle trip. Fits 6 bikes on the taco. I think we went the wrong way up though because we ended up pedaling about 5 miles up on 100f weather. But the long singletrack it was worth it. My mach 6 is burried somewhere lol.

thats how SJT is. even when you start at bluebird you go down a couple of miles then have the longest hike up. sucks. but like you said worth it for the 9miles of downhill afterwards. havent been there in a long time. trail isnt tech enough anymore ;)

They said theres another way up thats only 1 mile to pedal and you come out at the top of that big ass rock instead of the bottom.

that might have been what i was referring to. its a nearly straight long shot up a rooted hill that pretty much leaves you a champagne rock (where everyone stops to eat/drink). you probably the longer way around... the super rocky and windy trail that dumps you out at the same spot.

Yea well hated that uphill. Hella rocky and could barely fit in the ruts. In addition it was a 103f when we went and i ran out of water.
