Ok, there it is. That’s why nobody new what I was asking. Is hill assist the brake holding on for a second after you let off? If so don’t push the brake pedal all the way to the floor. If you step on the brake just enough to stop the truck it won’t be on when you let off. If you push it all the way down it will SET the hill assist. 2017 Sport M/T....skewp!!!

I think it holds about 2-3 seconds. If you tap the brake or gas the truck will release the brakes.

Fascinating. Toyota makes no mention of this in the manual, UNLESS it's in an obscure place, which wouldn't be a first

I only have two gripes with mine:

    1. With the clutch disengaged, I get a hell of a rattle while going over any kind of bumps. Sounds cheap, and it's internal to the tranny, so I can't fix it.
    2. With the clutch engaged, when it's well below freezing, one of the bearings in the tranny squeals like a banshee until the tranny warms up. It's very loud, and pretty embarrassing while waiting for the truck to warm up.

Those two things just don't exude Toyota quality, although I'm not sure if Toyota builds the transmissions.

Are you sure Number 1 is in the transmission? Some folks say that I might be the carrier bearing? A couple people installed zerks in the shell to keep it lubed.

Mine got a lot better after the TSB tune. Less surging at slow speeds?

My trans rattle can be heard by moving the shifter back and forth in neutral at a stop, or by engaging/disengaging the clutch. — As well as over bumps on the move. There may be multiple rattles?

What’s the process for doing the low range reverse thing? I have to do exactly this tonight and am getting nervous. It’s a smaller trailer, maybe 2500 pounds, but I can’t push the thing up the hill by hand...

it's plug & play. if you want to do a pretty install with a nice stock looking button then a little more time.

Don't turn? I tried backing up a very light trailer (4x8 foldup) that I could barely see in my mirrors. I needed more steering than the binding 4Lo system liked. I just ended up slipping the clutch in 2Hi.

Get the 2LM and reverse in peace:

The couple of times I’ve tried backing this stupid trailer on flat land the clutch stunk up the neighborhood. When you say slipping the clutch, is that referring to “feathering” it until it engages?

Yeah. We have a sloped cul de sac and trying to hit our driveway was not fun at 10mph. Feathering it just to back up slowly enough to control the trailer.

It's easier to straight line back in 4lo.

You’re describing almost my exact situation lol. I’m just moving in too, so I’m hoping my first impression on neighbors isn’t a profanity-laced tantrum.

Sorry that you can't really wait for it, but the 2LM is the solution that you are looking for.

From my experience with carbon fiber clutches, they are very forgiving of a few challenging workouts. Don't sweat the smoke and smell if it is just a time or two over the life.

Or good clutch control. Ive never driven a manual up a hill with a load, but if you know what you're doing you dont need no damn hill assist!
