4690k all the way! Though ill be upgrading sometime in the nearish future. Really could get away with just a new GPU (the old trusty 570 9gb is showing its age) as most of what I play these days is GPU intensive vs CPU.

More GC leaks. nVidia 3080Ti and 3080 are likely going to be released on September 17th. The 3070 and 3060 will each be dropping respectively one and two months later, completing the RTX stack for Christmas. Also vendors supposedly have the specs for all the cards and will be ready to launch day one. Supposedly they do not have anything from AMD and may not have anything soon, which might mean RDNA 2 launches like the 5700 and 5700XT did without aftermarket versions to start which really sucks.

Some rumors as well that AMD conquered the MCM problem on graphics cards. Which would mean they can dial a chiplet at will to match nVidia tit for tat. Could be interesting.

All 20 series Super cards and the 2080Ti have also be discontinued.

Too many but also not enough mods
I'm praying 3080 and 3080 TI are released on Sept 17

Signs point to yes. If it's like the last launch though good luck getting one before Christmas unless you're willing to be flexible in which one you get.

Pending final performance increases, I'm almost 100% in for the 3070 variant. Need something for 1440p mostly max settings at 144hz and if the 3070 can pull off 2080ti numbers like tradition dictates, I think it'll be the last card I need for a long while.

Truth be told I just want something that I can max out Cyberpunk 2077 with.

Depends on what you mean by max out. I don't think a 3070 will handle Cyberpunk at 1440P above 60 fps with RTX on.

True. I’ve played 2 games with RTX and didn’t really notice a difference in either one of them. Not really something I factor in from a settings standpoint.

Anyone in need of a small psu? I've got two corsair cx430 psu's I don't need/want. You pay shipping and they are yours. Otherwise it's off to the recycler for them. Just shoot me a pm

Okay I'm in love with my new G7 Odyssey monitor by Samsung. In normal colour mode the blacks and colors are fantastic and pretty accurate from what I can tell. In HDR mode playing games with HDR settings it's breath taking, far better than the lower end HDR displays I've seen. I don't notice the 1000R curve at all using it from about 20" away. Actually, I'd say that I noticed a bigger difference between my flat panel and my 1800R Asus way back when I made that swap back then going from a 1800R to a 1000R. I did do the firmware update as well as installed the newest nVidia drivers which has the profile specific to this monitor. I have none of the flickering issues some reporting with the reviewer version of this panel. I'd solidly recommend it as about the best overall normal aspect ratio panel available on the market.

I guess I kinda just forced myself into a GPU upgrade, I ordered two 1080P 144HZ panels and my RX 580 won't even run a 1080 and 720 monitor at more than 15FPS in Xplane.

When are the new AMD cards supposed to drop? I'm considering a triple fan model of the 5700 XT but I'm curious to see what the new offerings will be this year and how they will effect the pricing of current gen cards.

I don’t know if I’d stick with AMD for a gpu. It’s been a year and they’re still having black screen issues with their drivers. Especially with the 5000 series cards

Traded in the last one, going to start modifying this soon.
As much as I love to support the underdog, when it comes to GPU, AMD has really screwed the pooch on that one. The 5000-series card(s) I have had for short time, have been nothing but troubles in both Windows and Linux. It's really frustrating ... and no, it's not me :) My day job is taking care of compute clusters for EDA/fabless semiconductors and we do use GPUs heavily for next-node designs (quantum chemistry, computational chemistry, and so on).

AMD's only strength in that segment is the EPYC line. Their GPU-compute in that segment is non-existent :(

Likely November at this point. nVidia should start dropping cards in September as I mentioned above. You're probably better off grabbing a nVidia 3080 once they drop as others have mentioned but wait for reviews first. Pre-ordering cards never works out.
? I have built a couple of PC's for friends with 5600XT/5700XT cards and no issues? Anytime I've seen a problem it's because someone upgraded to a beta driver since Catalyst or whatever it's called now allows low tech users to accidentally apply a beta update. One major problem is the lower end 5600XT/5700XT cards. Some companies did a really shitty job with cooling and it's causing issues for sure. This is very similar to what happened with AMD motherboards until Ryzen 2. Companies put better components into their custom nVidia boards because that's where the money is. Sadly this won't change until AMD has a card that the manufacturers can't really ignore, which kind of starts a circle that won't fix itself until nVidia fucks up as bad as Intel did.
Weird. Like I said my installs have been fine. I build 2-3 PCs a year for friends and regularly update my own boxes. I had the black/purple screen once but rolling back a driver fixed it.

nVidia's GPGPU support is extremely well refined. I could never recommend using an AMD workstation card unless it came in a necessary factory installation. Especially if your software is optimized for nVidia deep learning. That being said nVidia is all in on Epyc now. It's not so much that AMD has strength in the workstation and server market. They are the future of the X86-64 enterprise market unless Intel comes out with something amazing soon.

The 3080 is way out of budget, even used 2080’s are a bit high for me.
I typically only use one or two monitors when browsing or doing work, a single monitor when gaming shooter games, and the 3 monitors for flight sims (60 FPS is perfectly fine) so I think a 2070 would work well, there’s a refurbished MSI for 400 on eBay.

Pricing on used 20 series cards should be really good once the 30 series drops. It might be worth waiting a month or two if you can.

Will do, I’m in no rush. With the price drop I can probably get a 2080 and get a smidge more performance if I need it.

    K. Yup. The Samsung Odyssey is pure sex. Played on it for a few hours. Can't see a single issue with it. Like there is nothing wrong. No smear, no strobe, no colours off. Just pure great monitor at 240hz. The update must of fixed whatever the few reviewers, most loved it, were bitching about. 1000R is perfect at normal display distance.
