Yeah lots of speculation says 2000 series but no one knows. There was a demonstration a couple of weeks ago on real time lighting drawing which is a new technology that only Volta cards can handle. That should mean Volta cards will be coming at some point in the near future.

Yeah if I could find a EVGA 1080 for around the $550-$600 price range I'd be fine with that.

Nice. Glad to know it! The rest of my parts should be here tomorrow, then build time!

So I need to update my pc, I can’t run the games I want to anymore. My brother built my pc so I don’t have a lot of knowledge. I have a dell insprion 560

    I have:
    GeForce 750ti graphics card
    Corsair cx600m power supply
6gb ram (pc can only handle up to 8)
    Stock mother board
    Stock tower
    Piece of garbage wireless card
Solid state drive(this thing is my favorite, pc starts up in seconds)
    Two fans

I want to get a new tower, motherboard, and wireless capabilities. Also more ram.
Thing is, idk what the heck to get

Any suggestions? Prefer to keep each item under 200$

So I'm hearing budget build? Here is what I would go with.

AMD Ryzen 2600 (it comes with a good cooler for what you're doing)
Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming AM4
Pick a ram kit, I'd stick with 2666 mhz ram because of your budget
Pick a 500-600 watt PSU, check online reviews on Newegg for what will hold up
AMD 580 8G Ram graphics card (I'd go with an Asus model but others may disagree)
Pick what case you like the look of that fits that board, if you buy from a brick and mortar store they can help with this
Pick a good wireless card again based on Newegg reviews
I'd look into spending a bit of money on an M2 SSD drive. M2 is the way to go for speed and ultimately this is the part you will notice the most since it effects boot times, load times in games, etc etc

Have fun building! I recommended the Ryzen 5 because you get 6 cores/12 threads of the new generation of Ryzen for less money than Intel is asking for 4 cores without hyperthreading at the same speed lol. You'd have to be an Intel fan to buy their low or mid end stuff right now. Same on the 580 graphics card. They are still easy to find and fairly cheap with a good amount of horsepower. It'll play any game at 1080p at max settings with no problems for a few years.

So my system runs some pretty demanding games games, just very poorly. Like lowest settings. I don’t mind the graphics, it’s the frame rate that makes things unplayable.
Would I be able to just upgrade ram, graphics card, and wireless card (while keeping my current power supply and motherboard)?

Or should I still shoot for a complete rebuild

What’s your current processor? The Dell model doesn’t really tell us anything. I’d also be a bit scared whether a nicer card could fit in an old Dell case and whether your power supply might a little tired. If you’re processor is old enough you’re better off spending what is really 400-500 more dollars to upgrade those options at the same time.

Plus CPUs are actually at record low prices for their power since AMD and Intel are in the middle of a street fight right now.

Also if you are okay with minimum settings the build I talked about will do that for a very long time.

I've built a few PC over time as well. My current build is a bit old now, but as long as I can play Counter Strike: Global Offensive at a smooth 60 FPS I'm happy :).

    Brief list of major components:
    AMD FX-8350
    EVGA GTX-970SSC
    Samsung SSD
    Razer Ultimate Chroma Keyboard
    Razer Mamba Mouse

I use it for 3D modeling/engineering simulations and gaming mostly.

    Edit: Hz to FPS

Yeah it's time to upgrade then. Dual core died in the last Intel generation and hasn't been good for gaming for about 3-4 years now. Most games now use at least 2 of the cores and then anything else running on your system ends up bogging down the game. Also, we are finally starting to see games designed to use more than 2 cores which your system won't be able to run at all.

I looked up the Precision 650 series from Dell, that's a very old computer. Looks like all the way back to the beginning of the Xeon line from Intel, which is way too old to upgrade. I mean, the sheet I saw mentioned DDR2 ram. Chips now run DDR4 ram which is at least 4x faster. You also can't put more than 2-4 GB of ram onto most DDR2 boards. Gaming now you need a minimum of 8 GB of ram. You need to build from scratch.

I mostly agree with this, with a couple of exceptions:
-He could get a lower end mobo if he doesnt look to be overclocking. A B350 or whatever the newer equivalent would suffice just fine i think.
-instead of rx580 i would look at a gtx1060 or 1070. I like the founders editions myself but thats personal preference.
-for power supply, definitely get something 80+ gold rated. Evga makes some amazing power supplies and are regularly on sale with mail in rebates.
-an older generation ryzen 7 1700 could be had for about 200 before tax on sale. Might be good to scoop up, and the 1700 is a very nice chip (again, if not overclocking the non-x would be sufficient)

Here is what I ended up putting together: (keep in mind my focus is budget, I plan on using my current graphics card and psu until I can upgrade later on)

Ryzen 3 is not a bad choice. I might try to spend the extra $70 on the Ryzen 5 I mentioned though since it has triple the threads and double the cores. That’s going to last a lot longer for gaming at acceptable frame rates and likely pair up better in the future to a new graphics card. If you don’t want to spend that $70 look at a lower end 1st gen Ryzen 5, since that Ryzen 3 you listed has Vega cores that do nothing for you and is limited without hyper threading.
No worries on disagreeing. There are a lot of ways to get to where he wants to go. I haven’t seen many 400 series boards apart from the X470s and that board is the bargain of the bunch. I’d tell him to get a 300 series board but he’d need a 1st gen Ryzen to update it which I don’t think he’ll be able to find cheap. I picked the 580 because of availability and cost. A 580 can run all day with a 1060 but it can be found on sale for cheaper and even local stores often have 580 stock. The 1070 is a great option, it’s what I run, but they want crazy money for them right now and availability sucks. For PSU 80 Gold is a good recommendation but on a budget anything 80 rated with good review will get him by.

I totally agree on the Ryzen 7 1700. He needs to go up into at least the Ryzen 5 range IMHO to be future proof for his next graphics card. I wonder, would a Ryzen 2400G without his 770 behind actually be better (ie is Vega 11 better than a 770?) That might be a good option.

Edit: Nope, I found some comparisons and he’s better off with a non G series Ryzen 5 or 7 with his 770.

On board graphics are often very basic, so i am not too surprised to see the 770 would be better. I agree bumping up to the ryzen 5 is a good idea for small amount extra. Wait for a sale or even a combo deal and it may be about the same price.

I didnt realize the older 300 series boards would need an older cpu just to update bios to take a newer one.
