Nice I was looking at that card, the EVGA SC2 and Asus Strix. Leaning towards Asus Strix for better cooling than SC2, 2 HDMI ports and free Black Ops 4 code that I will sell.

I skipped the 1080Ti, I'm going with a 2080. I want to at least play around a little with ray tracing and the price is the same for both cards (out of pocket at the time I was looking, 1080Ti's were $1050 CAD and my preorder 2080 is $1080).

I don't get the anger at the 20 series. It's about a 30-50% bump in frame rates until you hit the PCI-E/CPU bottleneck at 4K. Until PCI-E 4.0 comes to market next year there won't be any way to get higher frame rates at 4K. Even then I'd challenge that until CPU single core speeds take another jump 4K at 144 fps is a long way away. Ray tracing is cool and with the size of the die I get why nVidia is charging what they are. The 20 series also shines when g-sync plus FXAA is used. The AI cores are far more efficient at AA than the older tech and will only get better as driver support improves. This is the largest GPU die in 10 year and the 2080Ti creams a Titan V in most benchmarks. The value is there for some but I get why it isn't for others. The 20 series is a neat piece of tech.

I should add I game at 2K on g-sync monitors so my gains with the 20 series are good at the 2080 level over my current 1070. If I was gaming at 4K I would probably hold onto a 1080Ti current setup because when the next cards with PCI-E 4.0 come out I would need a new MB, CPU, and GPU to take advantage of any really significant frame rate increases. Plus lets be honest, unless you invested in a monitor with 4K 144hz G-Sync you can't see above 60 fps anyways.

    Yeah.
I used a 1070 in my daughter's gaming rig due to value/performance. Still a great card, and she doesn't have a 4K monitor.

It's basically the value 2K card. Well it was until the 1070Ti came out lol.

The thing I actually find the most funny is that in the last Steam survey guess how many people have a 1080Ti? 1.2% of gamers on steam. The highest 10 series card was the 1060 at something like 13% ownership. In fact, 25% of gamers had a 10 series 1050, 1050Ti, or 1060. At the end of the day very few people pay for the premium cards. It's just in the 20 series more people are whining about the premium even though they would never shell out for it.

I must of looked at fake benchmarks cause the 2080 is pretty even with a 1080ti and a 2080ti doesn't look very promising for 1600 dollars. even with dlss and ray tracing there's barely any games that support it, I do agree that if one were looking to upgrade skipping a 1080ti and moving on a 2080 would be the smart move for the price but for people that already have a 1080ti I see no point on upgrading until the tech is actually proven in real time down the road

Depending on the game a 2080 outperforms a 1080Ti 0-20% at 2K without FXAA and more consistently around 20% with FXAA. I'll try to find the bench I was looking at.

Like I said, unless you have a 4K 144hz monitor there is no point in getting the 2080Ti, which shows a modest 5-15 fps increase over the 1080Ti at 4k. The price gradient makes the argument even more difficult. That being said a few reviewers have noticed that at the max frame rates the 2080Ti can push the CPU load on 7 and 8 series Intel chips is hitting 100% on two to four cores. That means the CPU is the bottleneck, and not the card. The 20 series is bring held back by the PCI-E and CPU speeds.

I'm surprised more people aren't bitching about the 9900K leaks. That's a chip worth 2x a Ryzen 2700x with only 15% better performance even with a 5 ghz overclock. Ouch.

yeah I saw that too, 8 cores and a boost of 5ghz like cmon intel get your shit together. looks like they might be finally fixing the cooling issues though.

    Yeah.
Those new cards have massive amounts of memory. I'm wondering if the benchmarks people are running are even that valid. The games used and dedicated benchmarks themselves may not be designed to appropriately utilize what is available.

Still, not willing to pay more than double of what is actually necessary, but I understand wanting to have the best available.

I'm no longer a PC gamer and got turned off of nVidia years ago due to manufacturing and driver quality issues, so I stick with mid-range AMD cards in my personal rigs. I know, it's not like that as much anymore, and my daughter insisted on nVidia so I still have to support them.

Regarding Intel, my daughter says her new rig is slightly slower than her old one. Old one had a 6700K and new one has the 8700K, but everything else similar (faster memory in the new one). Kind of disappointing.

that's weird, im pretty happy with the 8700k performance. other than how hot it gets its a beast cpu, I can out perform my buddies 7900x on benchmarks, threadripper still embarrasses me in everything other tan gaming though :pout:
