I just used one of those in my daughter's new 5800X build, that thing is hyoooj! Still waiting for new GPUs to be more available, for now she's just running an old 970 in the new one while she gets stuff moved over. Her old system is a mess. Kind of like her room.

So I found "anti surge support" enabled in bios.
    Bad idea to dissable it?

Any decent PSU will have overcurrent protection built in. The MB feature is there to limit voltage pull to the ram and CPU. Odds are your CPU is suffering a bit of degradation from 8 plus years of use and pulling a little more voltage to compensate. You could watch HWmonitor to confirm.

My advice would be to look at either a Ryzen 3300X or Rocket Lake Core i3 in the near future with a new MB.

Oh, and I recommend EVGA, Seasonic, or Corsair PSUs. Seasonics are absolutely rock solid and I'd be surprised if it's your issue. That being said, if you really want to be safe just grab an AX1600i like I have. Nothing says safety like a PSU that can push over 1600 watts on a single rail without any voltage deflection. Oh, comes with the price tag too lol.

I dont think it has anything to do with the cpu at this point. After finally getting it to boot yesterday, Iv'e been gaming hard since my post yesterday. Ive also been running various benchmarks for cpu, video, memory.
Not had a single hiccup since.

One thing i did do since my OP, was carry this 50 lb beast downstairs to the garage and hit it with the air compressor. Carefully making sure to hold my fans on the vid cards, psu and rad fans.

I thourghly went thru and made sure all cables were seated in the psu.

Iv been running cinebench, scanner x, Precision X, pi, passmark, a bunch of older ones. Not even a single gitch. Ran GTA 5 for roughly 6 hrs lastnight.

I guess if nothing else happens and it continues to run fine, I'll use the new psu and build another rig.

So I just found something non related.
The 2 fans on my h100 rad are blowing from inside the case, thru the rad and then to the outside. Thats not the correct airflow, right?

Idk how this happened. When I went to blow all the dust off of the radiator yesterday, there was dust on top of the radiator, indicating it was pulling ambient air from outside, thru the rad, into the case and out the rear.

How can it be now that it is blowing from inside the case, thru the rad and outside?

    Now I feel dumb.
Why would you want hot air inside the case pushing thru the radiator instead of cool air coming into the radiator?

When i first started building computers, I was buying PSUs from CompUSA. They would only last about 6 months. Definitely learned to buy quality PSUs after a couple died.

I started a new build last weekend and had to stop to wait for some more parts. It’s a blazing fast socket 7 166 MMX!

My Socket 7 machine still works. This was the build that made me favor AMD over Intel CPUs. I still have the Intel CPU too, but it can only OC to 266mhz on a much higher voltage.
