I keep entering the newegg shuffle for shits and giggles, but aside from a random fluke I've given up on online stock.

Shuffle sucks. There's already reports that bots enter literally millions of dummy email account entries. So it's probably even less likely you'll win there instead of just randomly catch a drop of cards. Still, playing is free I guess.

I went with a TVS-672N. It has an i3-8100 that is socketed. So if you needed more oomph, you can upgrade the cpu as long as you stay below the 65w TDP. I think the PSU is rated at 300w or less. That's why I was looking for an i7 8700, 9700, or i9-9900 non k for cheap. Those are all 1151 socket with TDP 65w according to Intel spec sheet. I plan to keep using the NAS after migrating my plex server, that is why I eventually want to update the cpu.
Mine has 2 m.2 pci-e slots, which I have populated with 2x 250GB Evo+ drives in RAID0 as cache. And the RAM, while it only came with 4GB, was easily upgradable to 32GB. I think the lower end qnap hardware isn't much on specs, but the mid-high stuff isn't bad at all. It's just after mine just up and died on me and they had to replace the mobo, I remembered how much of a PITA anything with proprietary parts is to fix. I don't want to deal with that.

That's a $2000 CAD NAS before drives. A little out of my price range and needs. If I wanted to run VMs or do transcode on the NAS I would go with a custom build of my own though that does look like a nice unit. I can get a dual core Celeron NAS with two NVMe caches, max out the ram at 6GB, and 2x16 TB drives for less than that price with a Synology. That's probably what I'm going with. Also it being dead simple helps, I've ran FreeBSD and others on custom hardware before though drag and drop will be nice this time around.

I didn't know about such a thing, been F5'ing on Best Buy/Newegg/Amazon/Reddit while going to Ebay to maybe snag a severely overpriced card.

It's usually at top of page on Newegg when they're having one. F5s were way easier to get. Goodluck

Seems like everywhere I go licenses are expired. At the tech school I went to the Waterjet had an expired license on its software, but they just got around it by not hooking it up to the internet. Well IT came through and decided it needed to be connected. Oops.

Had to order some more storage tonight, 500 gig M.2 (C) is getting full so I'm getting a 1TB to replace it, and my storage pool of a 1TB HDD and 1TB Evo860 is full so I'm getting a 6TB HDD to replace the 1TB and I'll roll the old C drive into the storage space to give some more cache, I might also add the additional 860Evo that I have into the storage space as well. I'm trying to save my external HDD's for backups.

I pulled the trigger on a BNIB 10850k last week and had been mentally kicking myself for not waiting...now I don't feel so bad.

Lots of good deals on 10th gen right now. I saw a 10900KF on a website in Canada for $400 (daily deal). That's only $315 USD for a 10 core part that's still pretty top end.

A 10th gen i9 for $300 BNIB is a smart buy (or I like to think so as I did that). I am changing up form factors (going to itx) and was looking at going AMD with it but couldn't pass up the i9 at that price.

It's a very good deal. I suspect 11th Gen won't sell very well and Intel probably doesn't even care because any product on the shelf will move units under these shortages. They can sell discounted 10th Gen units and probably combined outsell AMD again which is a win for them.

What'll be interesting is this fall. I expect Alderlake to be much better than Rocket Lake. AMD is also launching Zen 4 on the 15th for servers which means they're on schedule to release Zen 4 on 5 nm to desktop in November. That chip could see a 30-40% boost over Zen 3 from what AMD has said in interviews. If that's true, the fall should bring some pretty amazing next Gen stuff.
