Yeah that's true. I've seen some old prebuilt PCs to where it looks so bad they have asbestos in them LOL

Also my board specs 4 x DIMM, Max. 16 GB, DDR3 1600(O.C.)/1333/1066 ECC,Non-ECC,Un-buffered Memory. Without overclocking it will run at 1333mhz anyways. I wonder if there is a noticable difference in 1600 and 1333..

I heard that there isn't a significant difference between speeds of those differences; I remember watching a video on it from Linus Tech Tips or something. I know that of course there are when you start comparing DDR3 1600 to DDR4 3000.

Man it's nice seeing a build that started since 2009 that is still a working beast. It's almost a decade since that PC has been born. Nice computer man.

That was my goal, keep running strong for at least 10 years with minor upgrades. The last game I wanted to play, got it with my ssd, was assassins creed and my video card doesn't support a high enough dx level.

Do you plan on upgrading your graphics card? I got a pretty good deal on mine. I used to have the GTX 750Ti but then I found a GTX 970 SC refurbed for like $200 or something so I had to take it. Especially with the new 1070s and 1080s out, I'm sure the 900 series are cheaper.

At some point, I don't play many games on it as I have an Xbox. I did recently pickup a steam deal for all of the fallout series. Retro console games (emulators) just don't need the power that new games demand. Also what should I be looking for in one?

    EVGA 04G-P4-6253-KR SC GAMING ACX 2.0 GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB 1.35GHz (28) $156.99

It honestly depends what your goal is.

Are you looking to be able to play AAA games at above 60 FPS on ULTRA settings? If so, you'll need to save a bit more money and would need to upgrade your monitor. Some games are a CPU hog such as Dark Souls so you may need to also upgrade that. You already have an SSD so you don't need to upgrade that for load times. There is zero difference in load times when using a regular SSD compared to a M.2 SSD or NVMe.

Are you only looking to be able to play less demanding games such as League of Legends, CSGO, Overwatch on ULTRA settings and then BF1 on Medium?

EVGA is a great brand for GPUs. I love EVGA. It's the brand I use for my GPU. If you're just looking for a budget GPU, the one you referenced is a good option. If you want something more worth the money, I think the GTX 1060 is a much better option for only $40-50 more.

Nvidia GTX 1060-3GB vs GTX 1050 Ti
Userbenchmark Effective 3D Gaming GPU Speed: 67.7% vs 39.1%
    Nvidia GTX 1060-3GB - 22nd / 548
    Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti - 52nd / 548

My work/gaming rig. Really it can do whatever I need it too and is a top end HEDT for work.

CPU: AMD Threadripper 1950x (16 cores/32 threads) XFR to 4.2 GHz
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i AIO

Motherboard: Gigabyte X399 AORUS gaming 7
Memory: 4 x 16 GB Kingston HyperX at 2666 mHz (upgrade coming soon, likely to 3600 mHz)
Storage: Samsung 960 EVO M.2 1 TB NVMe SSD
Video Card: Asus ROG GTX 10708GB RGB OC'd Edition
    Case: Corsair 270R Windowed Edition
Power Supply: eVGA SuperNOVA 1000w G3a
Operating System: Windows 10 64 Bit Home Edition
Case Fan: Hodgepodge of Corsair Fans lol
Monitor: Viewsonic 144 Hz Freesync Panel (upgrading to something with G-Sync and 240 Hz soon)
Keyboard: Logitech G410 Atlas 10 keyless with Romer-G switches
Mouse: Logitech G700 mouse (likely upgrading to a wireless self charging mouse once they are available in stores)

Cost: If you have to ask... I'm kidding. All in, I've spent over 3K CAD on this system.

I was bummed when I built mine with a 980 Ti and then not a few months later the 1080's came out at about what I paid for my 980. Thinking about building an AMD next.

For middle tier cards why not go AMD? You'll save a bit of money and get a bit more card in terms of performance, especially since the Vulkan API is more AMD friendly and many new games are going to use it over DirectX.

If you wanted something in the GTX 1070 class or above I'd say get something nVidia, but below that unless you are a huge nVidia fan go with AMD.

    What work do you do?

We use Autodesk Inventor at work, Unfortunately mostly for sheet metal design, so we don't need to photo realistically render anything, but if we did, I'd be pushing to build my own rig.

Wait for Zen 2 if you can if you're thinking about an AMD build. The newer chips should become available in March like Ryzen was. Coffeelake is pretty sexy right now from Intel. AMD forced their hand and finally Intel released a chip worth buying if you have the coin for the i7 version. That being said the Ryzen 1700 is still an almost unparalleled bargain.

I agree. The debate between Team Green & Team Red is a thing of the past now. AMD has stepped up their game. I know that before, AMD used to run hotter than NVIDIA; however I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. Nonetheless, their products have improved and have peaked my interest.

For work I do a lot of image stitching each summer and fall in Pix4D. It's a fairly poorly optimized program that doesn't take as much advantage of CUDA as it should so I need a highly threaded processor to handle it. Threadripper has been a god send and posts times 50-60% better than an i9 in Pix4D.

When you look at e-Sports and consumer cards AMD is usually the recommended solution. It's only when you need the highest level of performance that AMD solutions are still hot and heavy on power usage.

What's really interesting is Intel's announcement that they will be releasing high end graphics cards within 2 years. I don't know what nVidia's plans are but that could cost them a huge segment of the market since traditionally Intel fans have bought nVidia.

Also Intel is releasing a new set of CPU's with built in AMD graphics since it appears Vega will be stronger than Intels HD options for the next year or two until Intels new GPUs are ready. This puts a pretty big target on nVidia.

My System, built maybe 4 years ago, will most likely upgrade in a couple years, maybe.
Like to mess around in Solidworks and Inventor at home, which is why I have 22gb of ram, otherwise I don't really game anymore, so the R9 270X is under utilized all the time

CPU: AMD FX 8350 Black Edition @ Stock 4Ghz used to run at 4.5 Ghz
    CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 Ultra
Memory: 22gb bastard kit, A mix of ram sticks
    Storage: Corsiar M500 240gb
    Video Card: MSI R9 280X
    Case: Cooler Master N400
    Power Supply: Thermaltake 850W
Operating System: Windows 10 64 Bit Pro
